Check The Art of the legendary Tishvaisings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFgtZyER9IU

and you have a great band with a really shitiy name. Don't remember how I came across them but usually I wouldn't even try to listen to a band with that kind of name / cover art.

But being anno vulgaris 2012, pretty much every single-word that is remotely ominous, evil, etc sounding has been used. There are 88,109 bands on Metal Archives - I think all the good single-word plain english names will have been used by now.

Well, there are still plenty of great bands in more recent times with excellent single-word names using slightly more obscure terminology... such as Ignivomous, Antediluvian, Mitochondrion. And some names that you'd think would have been taken AGES ago were still up for grabs until snatched up by truly high-caliber bands, like Villains or Communion for instance.

I was very diasppointed with Lords of Bukkake & Master Musicians of Bukkake, no Porn/Gore Grind at all. Same with Gore Gore Girls.

I wouldn't go so far as to say its a shit name but, as for legendary bands and band names are concerned..Goatpenis

Not the easiest task trying to convince people to take them serious upon speaking the name in conversation.

Guilty of naming my band after another band's song and not sounding like them (but Celtic Frost is our favorite metal band and no one took the name between 1985 and 2009 so fuck off!)

I normally don't care about band names if the music is good. But I admit, I am turned off and usually don't give bands a chance when they borrow more than just their name!

I didn't had your band in mind when I wrote that, just realized it now.

I was more thinking of bandnames like "Watain" or "Körgull the Exterminator", when you use words that other bands have created for their own "cosmos". Makes no sense to me.

Still, with "Dethroned Emperor" I expect nothing but pure CF-worship. But to each his own.

Accept is quite a shitty name for a band.

Ha, never really thought about that one, but now as you say it - definitive shitty!

No clue what they had in their mind there. Laughing

Wasn't the story that is was a ploy to get their music next to AC/DC in stores?

I think this "name" thing was important when there was no internet and you had 2 major criteria for buying a tape: band name + cover art.

This is more a consumer point of view, but now it really doesn't matter what their name is, you check out a quick sample or download and if it's good, they could be called Sons of Jesus Christ In Night Gowns for all I care.

Sometimes the most simple and unnoticeable names turn out to be the most amazing bands for me. I ignored Circle (Fin) for many years just because of the name. Stupid, I know, but that's how it goes, because I'm used to the "old ways".

I don't care too much about band names tbh.

Destroyer 666, Darkified, Goatpenis, Goat Molestor, Anal Vomit, and Goat Semen are just a few bands with silly names, yet the music is quality, so who gives a shit.
