A little while back I purchased the 'Halfblood' cd, on initial listen I was disgusted by 1/2 the album being ambient noise (like Sunn O))) or some similar crap), but I ripped the disc before I got rid of it. Now I listen to the three 'songs' that I kept as well as another three songs from a release called 'the invisible mountain'.The style is kinda like a proggy/blues hybrid with black metal vocals.
Point being, when they play songs the band is actually pretty original. Anyone like Horseback when they aren't trying to be Sunn O))) ?? And yes, I know Relapse is gay and not cool to mention on this board. |

| First half of that album is great, but the more noisy ambient second half is just boring. Don't really know any similar bands.... |

Haven't heard Halfblood yet but I like The Invisible Mountain and the other CD I have from them quite a bit. I think the best thing they've done is the Collaboration LP with Locrian which was exceptionally good, just a tad too short. Their split 7" with Locrian is also great.
But I also like Sunn O))) and ambient music so maybe you guys might not want to take such gay suggestions of such horrible things

if it doesn't have riffs or at least resemble 'metal', it's garbage.
Ambient = glorified elevator music. makes me wonder why Horseback can be equally good and bad depending which track you hear. |

Not sure what the hell music? like Sunn0))) or Wold are all about or who music? like that even appeals to actually myself.
Anywhere in the industry they make you wear ear plugs so as not to hear it.
I worked at an industrial plant for 16 yrs, heard all those songs via air compressors and diesel engines running long before it was ever recorded to CD... I must be kvlt as fuck concerning this genre.  |

| I feel the same way... The songs with vocals are so interesting and intense... The other ambient/drone stuff is just not an attention holder! |
