"inspired" by the other drum-thread: any drum sound that truly stands above the average and is reason alone to love the whole album?
my favs:
atrocity - todessehnsucht (US: longing for death)
mgla - groza
especially the snares on both are fucking killer!
I also like the old tico tico drum sound on north from here, never again or slumber of sullen eyes very much!
also death - leprosy: what a snare sound! wonderful! |

Yes!
There's many sounds I like for different reasons, right now I'll mention these:
- Possessed - Seven Churches
- Sodom - Expurse of Sodomy
The sound of Reign In Blood was always too "normal" and dry for my taste. _________________ Planet Earth is great to visit but you wouldn't want to live there |

Definitely. It's what I like best about both bands by far (and those pick slides!)
Seconding Leprosy and Reign in Blood.
I'll add Thy Infernal "Warlords of Hell" to the list. That snare sound is just perfect. |

Terrorizer - World Downfall
Very natural sounding but powerful. Basically a near perfect production, the guitars could be a little bit louder - or you crank up the stereo.
Exhumed - Slaughtercult
The drums sound like a machinegun and the cymbals like shell casings falling to the ground.
Thumbs up for the Tico Tico sound! _________________ Oh, what fun we have when we exist.

Portal : Outré. Whilst not conventionally good they really add to the feel and crawling chaos of the album. _________________

Fully agree!
Some of my favourites:
Ulver - Bergtatt
dISEMBOWELMENT - Transcendence Into the Peripheral (absolutely CRUSHING!!! 6:11 into Tall Hills is the most insane fill ever recorded imo)
Marduk - Opus Nocturne
Thergothon - Ftagn...
Katatonia - Discouraged Ones
Death - Human |
