So I don't think there has been a topic about Swallow the Sun's new album Songs from the North I II & III, maybe most of people here doesn't care for it anyway, but at least the 3th part should interest people into funeral doom.

Their 6th album is actually 3 albums released within one package. One similar to what they've done so far, one is mostly acoustic one and the last one is a funeral doom.

Someone uploaded this to youtube:

Part III (funeral doom) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAzjWB8o0bk
Part II (acoustic) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg1_4DBs7OY
Part I (normal) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InNyqJH9htY

The vinyl-version comes with 5LPs and 3CDs, costed about 45 euros, so very reasonable.

I only have their debut DLP, which was decent enough - and got this as well out of curiosity for the "III" funeral doom part.
I've heard it a couple of times and it's quite good !! I found "I" decent and "II" interesting but not my cup of tea - overall a nice release!

That first album is rare? How rare exactly? Cool

The first album was great, the second album was okay.. and I think I have the third as well but do not recall it's content beyond that.

This new release though is quite epic in scope, a three in one album release, pretty damned bold and insane perhaps? Laughing

Just speaking about the vinyl version as he mentioned DLP, call it rare, expensive or hard to obtain for a regular price since its over 100 usually.

Hmm. Wow. Never would have figured. It is a nice sturdy release though, the jacket is like Kevlar.

Seems like mixed reaction on this release, but it's very bold stuff and overall very well done, I'm really impressed with it and think they managed to pull off a consistently very high quality release over three album and 2,5 hours, which is pretty amazing.

I doubt it's for most people on here, but it def deserves respect and seemed to fly much more under the radar within the metal scene than what I expected.

Strange release... Too long, that's fore sure, though the choice is obvious considering that all three parts are different. But why compose/use tracks that were created after too much listening of Katatonia - still a mystery for me...
