What AFTER DEATH does nowadays is really killer. They keep what was good in NOCTURNUS and old ACHERON and adapt it to their new way. What is really great with them is that they don't add these overused "horror" parts, etc. Without the keyboards their music wouldn't have the same impact IMO. _________________ Scrutare et vide quia propheta a Galilaea non surgit! |

In the NOCTURNUS way, there is a very underrated band, CATACOMB from France :

great band, but very little death in their sound. more doom and black metal. _________________ my records

CATACOMB is very hit and miss IMO. Some tracks were great, with others being quite boring IMO. Anyway, along with the MERCILESS demo double CD, this is a welcome rerelease from Armée de la Mort. _________________ Scrutare et vide quia propheta a Galilaea non surgit! |

Generally not a huge fan of synth-heavy death metal, though Nocturnus's "the Key" is a fun listen through.
I just checked out the new Evoken album and was very satisfied with the use of synths there, kind of like if Disembolwelment wrote movie-scoring. |

I agree completely with this statement. _________________

Doesn't death metal with keyboards all of a sudden then become atmospheric black metal?
Or simply, Dimmu Borgir? |

| For some reason, keyboards in death metal instantly reminds me of Fleshgod Apocalypse. *shudders* |
