The man, the legend

Was having a discussion on the career of PC yesterday, this man has brought us fruitful amounts of incredible music and deserves more praise than he gets. My favorite would have to be detaching, although everything up to Life and Death is fantastic. The FOAD Mirror reissue has been one of my favorite reissues of recent times and Whited Sepulchres has been growing on me quite a bit as well. I left off PC Death SS material because that probably belongs in a Death SS thread, wonderful stuff regardless.

Nearly impossible for me to pick one, as each (most) albums have a highlight track or 2 for me, i.e.:

Detaching: voyage to hell
Park of reason: War Abysses
Opera 4: Bath Chairs mary
Mirror: Moment of rage
Life & Death: Kill me

This is just off the top of my head. I suppose most people would pick Detaching or Alkahest, but if I HAD to pick one I guess I would go with Park of Reason. Still so much stuff I haven't heard too, although most of it is schizophrenic italian acid ambient.

Alkahest would be perfect if Lee Dorrian hadn't ruined the second half. Sad

My thoughts exactly. The second half of that album is near unlistenable for me, but the first half is absolutely killer!!

Outside of that one, I probably hear Life and Death the most. From the short discussion here, it seems I should pick up the recent Mirror CD reissue?

This holds true for me, as does the Dorrian-tanking of Alkahest.

I would definitely pick up a copy of Mirror, any Paul Chain fan would enjoy it. I was talking about the FOAD mirror reissue, which also yellow acid that was missing on the CD release, well worth getting the DLP imo.

Completely agree with Alkahest, such an incredible recording until Lee Dorrian opens his stupid mouth. Despite this, still a monster album, pure fucking doom!

Ah come on, Dorrian is great on that album.

Anyone knows if this Violet Art of Improvisation lp reissue is coming out some day?

I havn't heard anything about this, but then again I've just been picking up PC reissues as they come out. I would be curious to hear about a reissue as well.

I was thinking about putting a few EPs on the poll including Ash, and perhaps I should have. Ash is a killer recording, some of the harder hitting faster stuff PC has released.

you should have put that King of the Dream CD, which has the split track, + Ash and Highway to Hell EPs, I probably would have voted for that one had it been up, instead I'll go with In the Darkness

Agreed all of those EPs are excellent, to be honest I was expecting a huge lean to Alkahest, this is a little surprising.

Alkahest might be my choice overall, but I think the three normal tracks on Opera IVth are my favourite songs from him. Too bad it opens with a 30 minute bullshit track.

I shouldn't have voted, because I've only heard Detaching from Satan, but y'know...fuck it.

Detaching is a masterpiece. It's a lot riffier than I expected when I bought it a few years ago. Borders on traditional metal sound in places, which I love. The dusty rusty recording sound, the passionate wailing of nonsensical made-up words...the whole thing leads to a true occult atmosphere that I can't get enough of.

My copy has the two long-ass improv'd tracks tacked on as a bonus. I don't listen to them as often but they're great for what they are. Every now and then I queue it up just to listen to the 30-something minute jam alone.

What is the next closest record to sounding like Detaching from Satan? I was always afraid he went off the rails after that for some reason.

This is an impossible choice and I refuse to pick one over the others! Even the experimental stuff is great.

The Unreleased Vol.1 & 2 albums should also be in the poll.
