This. They are "death metal" for shirt collector teenagers who just graduated from shitty hardcore bands. Nothing even remotely dark or morbid about their music.

This is pretty much how I feel about 2/3 of the bands mentioned in this thread, to be honest.

Blood Incantation - Starspawn
One of the best DM albums of the last years.Maybe the best.
This is how MA should play this time and period..
That album could be released after ''Heretic'' if Trey had the inspiration....
But sadly,he got zero inspiration..

Extremely overrated band.

No !
Brilliant songwriting,great vocals,Lovecraft-ian space-oriented lyrics,great atmosphere and RIFFS.

If you like technical DM (the real deal,early-mid 90s stuff,or if you're into Coroner,Voivod etc),I don't see a reason to dislike it.
Only if you haven't listened to it.

I own the ep (Interdimensional Extinction) as well. It's jazzy and ''come to see what I can play'' bullshit, but ''Starspawn'' is in the true spirit.
Give it a chance!

Feel the same way too, Tech DM by kids playing in Flannelcore Sludge bands on Profoundlore

I did. It's a bunch of teenagers trying to interpret Morbid Angel songs they just learned and somehow they got exposure. Give me caveman, or give me death!

even worse there are all these Agalloch style parts during which you can tell where these dudes really came from. most of the album is filler. modern kids just go nuts over the nostalgic production, makes them feel like they're from an era they otherwise have zero claims to, and the merch. this band's merch onslaught is unreal. hey remember when a band having a bunch of merch meant that they'd sold out and were lame? nowadays in show-n-tell instagram society it's a positive thing.

Agreed. Bölzer too.

Bölzer on the other hand are actually up to something rather fresh. whether you dig Gyro or not you can't deny that they've their own sound and that they take risks. not really my jam but i respect them

I am one of those strange people who prefer the Interdimensional Extinction EP.
