Rediscovering early Meshuggah made want to check out some of the fusion artist that have inspired them. I am somewhat familiar with
Allan Holdsworth, Al Di Meola, and Return to Forever, but that is about it. Anyone into this stuff?

Not so much into this style, but I saw the Mats/Morgan band when I was in Sweden and it's quite some mindblowing stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xsauw4Upv0

Here you have F. Thordendal with the drummer Morgan Agren; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgwJEvasJlM

They seem to like Zappa a lot too, which I am only superficially familiar with. I hate all the goofy shit he has put out, but would like to check more of his classical or instrumental stuff, so feel free to recommend anything in that vein.

Maybe also something like Camel can scratch your fusion itch?

I already posted these videos in the Meshuggah thread. Mind-blowing performances!

I am only familiar with The Mothers Of Invention's Uncle Meat and Frank Zappa's Hot Rats. Really trippy jazz-rock, but not pure fusion by any means.

Correct, his album with Santana is very cool; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3BFn4TuLL0

And he also played on Miles Davis' Bitches Brew: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbCt-iXIXlQ

Bitches Brew/In A Silent Way/On The Corner/Jack Johnson/Big Fun/Get Up With It/Live-Evil should be the essential fusion listening, ground zero

Return to Forever Hymn to the Seventh Galaxy & Where Have I Known You Before. Stanley Clarke’s second album is a banger too

Herbie Hancock Head Hunters/Sextant/Thrust/Man-Child are the cornerstone of funky fusion, these four records are the fuckin’ jam

The New Tony Williams Lifetime “Believe It” with Allan Holdsworth is a stone cold fusion banger

Eddie Henderson cut a sick fusion record too called Realization, total Bitches Brew vibes
