There have been metal bees and metal dogs, but no metal dogs who shoot bees from their mouths! I thought that'd be an episode by now.

Playtest is insane. I thought Crocodile was pretty dark. As was the final episode of Season 2 with the bees.
But one of the darkest episodes I thought was the one were your social status is defined by your SNS rankings, where everyone rates you. Of all the accuracies this show has, this is pretty close to happening right now in this neoliberal society of ours.

can anyone recommend some vampire films, ideally European ones, similar to Francis Ford Coppola's "Dracula". That one is perhaps one of the better, if not the best, representations of the novel/Dracula lore, but I was wondering if there were similar films that I might not have noticed. Similar in aesthetic and history of Vlad.
I know there's been a thread or bunch of recommendations on this thread for vampire films, but I'm hoping to get specific recommendations.

Watch The last Jedi several time, really love that movie not sure what people don't like about other than it isn't the original saga.

Not similar to Coppola's Dracula, but Shadow of the Vampire is one of the best vampire films ever.

Yes, I agree its a great film, with two of the best male actors around (seriously, with a face like that Willem DeFoe has a pretty good range!).
But it's not like Dracula, and this time round I'm really looking for that sort of aesthetic.
But again, agreed on the quality!

Im 99.99999% sure that Marduk lifted the main riff from their song Nightwing straight from one of the Subspecies themes. This was long after Marduk stopped being good but that was a cool idea especially considering the theme of the album etc.

Great movie series.

Look up a director named Jean Rollins.

I noticed this director after Nihilist recommended the movie "Fascination". It's the first I've heard of him! Seems like a lot of lesbian, exploitation style themes.
While I'll keep it in my mind, those films aren't the type of vampire films I'm keen on watching ATM.

You Were Never Really Here. Talk about a dark film...

From the same director of We Need to Talk About Kevin, so you know it's going to absolutely bleak and hopeless. Excellent film, a very modern day Taxi Driver with some elements of Red, White and Blue thrown in the mix. Joaquin Phoenix really knows how to tap into his inner beast to play a role like this. This is going on one of the darkest films list for sure.

The thing is that, other than The Hammer films and other movies from around that time, all victorian vampire movies (and most vampire movies in general) just fucking suck, Coppola's included.

I'd recommend going back to those 60s/70s gothic vampire films, or look for stuff with the same kind of setting but not necessarily about vampires, like Ken Russell's Gothic, for instance.
