watched Justice League last night. I’m no marvel fan-boy, but this movie was generic at best. I wasn’t expecting much though.

I just saw last days THE RITUAL. Enjoyable but nothing special.

Annihilation was amazing. We need more sci-fi movies like this. The genre has endless possibilities but so little is done with it. Great use of metaphors.

The Ritual. Impressed by it. Cool take on a creature feature, imaginative looking monster and I like the deeper story-line. I was reminded of the Witch by the historical nature of it. Solid film.

i'm pretty into DC stuff like the Crisis-related series (Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, Final Crisis, etc) - the weirdo, almost occult ideas that the likes of Jack Kirby and Grant MOrrison inject into their work is mindblowing sometimes - the ideas huge and all that . . .

the DCEU can't seem to make a good film with great actors, solid direction, and endless money. the bizarre looking facial CGI for Superman to remove the mustache was horrible, the writing was sloppy, and I guess they switched directors mid-stream and forced a release date to ensure stockholders got paid - which always leads to great work, right.

anyhow, they seem to rush these movies out. Marvel took it's time, had a plan and the movies can be genuinely enjoyable, esp. when the various threads start weaving together. bummer, DC cannot do the same.

Rapa Nui (1994): Movie about the original inhabitants of Easter Island, and the tribal war that followed between the Long Ear-tribe and the Short Ear-tribe, when nearing it's overpopulation, deforestation, and food-shortage.

7.5/10

Yeah, I won’t get into the comic book debates because I’m not a comic book reader myself, but what you described sounds great.
But as for the films, I would be glad to watch and enjoy the DC films, but as you said, they just can’t get the formula right due to the need to catch up with Marvel and to grease the fat cats

It's based on a horror fiction book that is pretty good & has some black metal influences, if I'm remembering correctly. I cannot recall the author's name at the moment...

I've watched The 'Burbs, Tom Horn (recommended western starring Steve McQueen), & The White Buffalo (awful n' wild western starring Charles Bronson).

Der Samurai, German psychosexual bloody cross-dressing cerebral thriller. I couldn’t make heads or tails of it but thought it was great!

I fucking LOVE The ‘Burbs! Easily among my all time favorite films, I watch it with some regularity.
