Ozark.. Watched the first episode a few months ago but it didn't leave much of an impression. Tried again recently and I got to say the show’s growing on me.

Definitely a grower. I should check out the second season.

Last movie I saw was Mandy (2018). Very weird, and the first part is pretty slow. Can't tell if I really liked it.

Just watched the Icelandic RAMS. Boy, it was pure joy, I recommend it. Very strong soundtrack as well.

Classic movie. Great makeup by Howard Berger.

I watched Hardcore starring Peter Boyle & George C. Scott not too long ago. It's a classic! I wish the ending had been a bit more dark but it's difficult to complain about a film with G.C.S. rampaging through a sex dungeon.

I just received the lim. ed. set of the Mexican splatter film, Atroz, released by Unearthed Films & I have Song of Solomon on the way (also U.F.). I'll save those for Halloween night, most likely.

Last night was Natural Born Killers, which, I hate.

I've been wanting to see this so I watched another Paul Schrader film in the meantime. Anybody seen Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters? Incredible stylistic film about Yukio Mishima. Taxi Driver and Raging Bull are written by Schrader (a fuckin Dutch Calvinist), for reference.

Yeah, Mishima is great. Hard to believe a film with such a presumably limited audience even got greenlit and distributed by Warner Bros but I guess things were quite different then. Hardcore is pretty funny in that it could function as a good propaganda piece for all the US anti-porn groups of the time, but still a very entertaining watch. Same sleazy atmosphere of Cruising. I like American Gigolo a lot, too.

Yeah I just re-watched this one recently as well. Lance Henriksen sells the whole thing so well, and it has just the right amount of the ridiculous to temper the sadism (Pumpkinhead is a seriously deranged revenge-demon, dudes). I really wish they weren't remaking it, because it'll probably be all cgi garbage when half the appeal of the original was it's amazing creature design/puppetry. And you can't find another Henriksen...

Lucas and Coppola probably helped quite a bit, they also went to bat for Kurosawa's comeback film Kagemusha back then. A lot of the New Hollywood guys that made the studios a ton of money in the 70s were into these types of films.

Watched the modern comedy “Game Night.” What happened to funny movies? 1/10. And only giving it a single point because McAdams girl has aged well and is extremely cute.

Watched Dark Waters, which was recommended by someone in this very thread a few days ago. I loved the Lovecraft meets Catholic atmosphere but the mediocre and predictable script and the awful dialogue and lackluster delivery kept it from being a great movie. Still well worth the watch for the visuals alone, but it's probably better enjoyed by watching it on mute and blasting some Paul Chain out of the speakers.

I watched Hotel Artemis the other night. When I first heard about it, it made me think they were taking the "Continental" concept from John Wick and turning it into its own movie.
But it has its own story with the central character. Unfortunately, the impact of the "message" felt a bit flat due to the "rushed" character development. There was less violence than the theme of the film suggests.
But overall, its a good little short story, and it deserves its 7 out of 10 average rating.
Next up is
Sicario: Day of the Soldado
Sleepwalk With Me
Beyond Skyline
Mandy
The 12th Man
That black and white silent Lovecraft movie from 2005
Mandy
Ant Man 2
Venom

As for that film Mishima - yes, I've seen it, and really appreciate it. I had heard a very interesting fact about it, but have since forgotten. Anyway, if you haven't read it yet, the Ivan Morris biography is great. They were close friends, apparently, so the book is quite detailed and insightful. I used to live near the place he committed suicide, and have tended some bars he frequented.
