Been looking into quite a few movies lately and checking them out or revisiting some old favorites:
The French Connection 1 & 2
The Long Good Friday
Short Cuts
The Big Combo
Blow
Battle Royale
Dredd
Chasing Amy
Secrets & Lies
High Hopes
Thinking of watching Shame again soon as it is fantastic. Also looking into Film Noir and American Indie cinema as well. Quite fond of British social realism. Have to admit, been looking at films more than music lately. Probably going to watch The Long Goodbye or Nashville next. Would like to give American Splendour another watch too. |

Its a shame this is often downplayed, underrated or totally ignored when measured up to Suspiria, but I think its the best of the trilogy. One of the most visually pleasing films ever.
The last few I watched were:
The Devil's Rain
Mask of the Red Death
Солярис (Solaris)
Phenomena

I tried watching Nashville last week, but couldn't get through the first half hour or so. Which surprised me a great deal -- I usually love American 70's flicks in general, and was expecting great things from Altman.
Are all of Altman's films more or less like Nashville? Is there some other Altman flick I should start with? |

I know not a movie but i just got/finished season 4 of breaking bad a week or two ago (having watched the first 3 seasons almost back to back a few weeks before, my eyes hanging out of my head, but worth it), way better then i expected! I avoided it for a long time thinking it wouldnt live up to the hype, but for me it did.

Hmm, The Long Goodbye is a thriller really as its based on one of Raymond Chandler's 'Hard Boiled' Philip Marlowe novels. I thought Short Cuts was great, based around the short stories of Raymond Carver. Its just lots of small stories crossing over into each other basically. I enjoyed it at least but have not seen enough of Altman to suggest where to start. |

Great show. I almost gave up on it after the first season (I fucking HATE Jesse/wiggers in general) ...but boy did that show ever sink it's claws in once the plot really gets moving. So fucking tense !
The first half of the new (final) season was good too. There are a few 'out there' moments that I wasn't thrilled about, but on the whole, the season has managed to keep the tension going brilliantly. Can't wait for the final 8 hours next year. |
