A Bigger Splash (2015) - Tilda Swinton plays a successful rock singer recovering from losing her voice, relaxing in Italy with her young boyfriend when they are rudely interrupted out the blue by her former lover/record producer/promoter played by Ralph Fiennes. In tow is his estranged daughter.
Tilda doesn't have to do much as she can barely whisper what few lines she has but does manage to pull off one of the best David Bowie lookalikes ever captured on film.An amazing resemblance.Ralph Fiennes on the other hand is one of the most annoying characters ever depicted who spends the entire film running around laughing, dancing, cooking, swimming, drinking, singing karaoke, taking drugs and crashing the car and most of the time with no clothes on waving his dick around. He never lets up.He's one of those lust for life pricks who you want to punch in the face and tell them to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up for five minutes..but in a good way.
I enjoyed it though, some brief vinyl porn to be had and its chock full of Italian culture and scenery(directed by Luca Guadagigno),topped off with a splendid and truly epic slap to the face delivered by Tilda(the likes of which has not been seen since Brian Blessed face palmed a traitor in Kenneth Brannagh's Henry V)given not to Ralph but received by his daughter as a farewell fuck you in the airport departure lounge.Well done madam.

Can You Ever Forgive Me? (2018) - Watched this online the other day.I wish Melissa McCarthy would take more serious roles like this instead of behaving like a horses ass in so called comedies. She is clearly talented and brilliant here playing a failed writer struggling with alcoholism and trying to pay her rent for an apartment full of cat shit. Not a sociable people person then but manages to befriend another barfly down on his luck played by Richard E Grant. For a teetotaller in real life he can do drunk, chainsmoking and cocaine snorter like no other and is apparently up for a supporting Oscar nod for his performance along with Melissa also for her leading role.Well earned on both i think. In a recent interview Richard Grant said he compared his character to Rizzo from Midnight Cowboy and to be honest the whole film could be likened to it though maybe not as grimey and desperate as the earlier movie.
Based on the true story of writer Lee Israel who resorted to fraud and deception to make ends meet i was enjoying this one after only about fifteen minutes in.Great performances and a character study of someone i i had never heard of.Recommended.

Robocop (2014) - at least with some remakes there's is a little effort to make it their own or unique, this one no fucks were given, even the action was limp and tiring, maybe even worse than that Total Recall remake, 1/10

Escape from Leningrad: A Snake Plissken Story. Absolutely horrible in every possible way. It was like watching flies fuck.

Is this the new one or is there still a Hollywood one being made?

The Howling- still classic. This was unfortunately a case where the sequels got super rediculous super quick.

This. I can’t stand her comedy and her “horse ass” behaviour, but I really enjoyed the trailer and am keen to watch this. Thanks for the write up!

I watched Polar the other night. At first I was skeptical that it might be a John Wick rip off, but it wasn’t too bad. The hit man gets a dog scene was kind of cool, if there was any evidence that it wasnt trying to be a JW rip off.
I dont get the complaints about the “bad guys” being too comedica and silly, though It is based on a comic, after all. Although I’m not sure what the source material is like, but I can’t take much comic or graphic novel material too serious, except for maybe Watchmen.

Just skipped through part of it, definitely looks bad, the guy they got to play Plissken........................

Shame as Escape from New York is one of the best movies of all time.

Watched Platoon a few nights ago after a long time of having not seen it, loved it when I was a little kid, still a damn good movie. Tom Berenger's performance as Sgt. Barnes is especially memorable...

No, this was a fan-made film from France. Hollywood has been trying to necromance the Snake Plissken franchise for decades, with various ideas that eventually went going into "development hell" and remaining in purgatory where they truly belong.

Unfortunately now, reportedly, there is a new one in the process of being made but I will boycott it if it ever surfaces.

I feel like a rape victim after watching Escape from Leningrad. I need to shower several times now with Lava soap while scrubbing vigorously.

Escape From New York RULES. There is only one actor who brought Snake Plissken to life and that actor's name is Kurt Russell.

As much as I love these movies and Snake as a character, I'll take your advice and not waste 50 minutes of my life watching this fan made thing.

Well said though, agreed on every point, there is only ONLY ONE GODDAMN SNAKE PLISSKEN.

A lot of people hated Escape from LA, and while it's nothing compared to the original movie, I still liked it as well. A little bit more on the satirical/goofy side of things, the score isn't as good, not as atmospheric or original but still not bad.

It's absolutely terrible! Watching Snake getting smacked around during an interrogation and taking it just shows how little those people know about the real Snake Plissken.

Always remembered for the longest & best werewolf transformation on film. If I witnessed that I'd be too scared to move too.

We've spent the entire weekened at the funeral and memorial of my grandmother's husband, but I managed to watch the fifth Elm Street movie too. It's called The Dream Child. A little bit ambiguous if you think about that and Freddy's age old habit of screwing with kids.

But what about these potato chips?

These are ginger potato chips by Taffel. They are the latest addition to the classic "Mansion's Potatochips" (Herrgård/Kartano = Mansion) line, and are basically made only from the vital ingredients and nothing extra. All the other flavors are excellent and they're all some of the best and most natural potato chips available I think. But these ginger ones I've tried three times now and well... they have no soul. I mean ginger is a very potent spice, I've used it in cooking for years. Yet, these chips have next to NO GINGER FLAVOR at all! They taste like regular potato chips except saltier and the heat and bite of ginger is nonexistent (nonexistant if you're Australian).

So last year I sent feedback to Taffel, pointing out the absence of ginger in their new ginger chips. A few weeks later I received a reply stating that my feedback has been directed to the product development department. I don't know if anything has happened yet for sure or if anything will ever, but this time I did notice that the chips are saltier. So I complained about the lack of ginger flavor last year and then months later the chips taste saltier. Did I do that? Is this how flavor works? Just add more salt? Well great, now I'm not going to buy the ginger chips again because they're even worse than before. I liked them better when they just misadvertised potato chips, but at least perfectly edible. Now they still don't taste like ginger, but they're just overall pretty bad. I'm going to stick with the other flavors.

So what's with Freds? I would say he's back but he was never gone. Lisa Wilsuckcox continues to portray Alice with a new cast by her side. She is pregnant or whatever now, with her jock boyfriend from the last movie. And the cast, at introduction, reeks of ineptitude. It's extremely amateurish. Steeped in amateurness. The comic book artist guy looks and sounds like an 80s cartoon, the tough chick character is replaced with a second hand beauty queen and the black nerdy kid is replaced with a latina/black/excuse my ignorance sporty girl. Everything seems so cheap at first it almost feels like a combined episode of Life Goes On and 90210 (the original, not the fake new one - eternal hails!). You can tell a mile away that the comic book guy is going to meet his fate through his art, because everyone is of course taken out by their own definining attributes.

This makes a clear distinction to the previous movies in a way. The Dream Child spends quite a lot of time in the dream world. Freddy again bends the rules, becoming flesh whenever he pleases regardless of the level of consciousness his victims are in. Alice may be walking to her workplace and all of a sudden she's fast asleep subjected to Krueger's mind games, only to be taken out of it in a snap. But if your head as much as touches a pillow, you're trapped in dreams with him. Alice does the same mistake as everyone else before her when she trusts others to stay awake and keep watch while she dreams. And they're like YEP SURE NO PROBLZZZZZzzzzzz.....

There are decent practical effects. The impossible maze in the end was well done. The cartoon death scene is underwhelming not only because you wait for it a long while and because it's a little on cheap side, but at least it was made. Again the lack of gore is disappointing. You need more ginger there. Also, I was absolutely certain the unborn little kid was a young Jake Gyllenhaal, but nope, just Whit Hertford. I know I've seen him around somewhere because his eyes look like beacons that beckon the dwellers of the ninth circle of Hell. He's also one of the better actors in the movie. A child actor, of all things. Still hate kids though.

Not sure what happens next. I've seen this one a long time ago and it's no wonder I hardly remembered any of it. I may sound like I didn't particularly enjoy this film and for the most part that is true. But maybe it's a general indifference more than a dislike. It's a five out of ten average Elm Street with few surprises, if any. Something has to seriously change for the next movie though.

I can't believe I may have made those potato chips even worse.

Public Service Announcement:

There is a Mentors documentary on amazon prime. Not amazing or anything, but worth watching. It was bizarre running across it on there.

Watched The Night comes for us after seeing the comments on here!

Pretty damn good. Very violent/gory! I think I liked The Raid and it's sequel a bit better though.
Also made me want to re-watch The Killer and Hardboiled. Been years since I've watched them.
