The Haunted Palace (1963). Pretty entertaining but a little too singular at times.

Excellent film.

Father... father, the sleeper has awakened!

The Bene Geserit witch must LEAVE!

It's a bit of a mess as a film, but I fucking love it.

Haven't watched any films for a little while, but I've gotten through the first 3 seasons of The Tudors over the last month or so. Although they make everyone look a bit too young/clean/healthy for the 16th century, it's pretty well done one the whole.

Agreed on Carnivale. Great short series and the supernatural element is killer.I want to watch it again soon.

It's set in the 1930s, not 20s , though.

I watched Mulholland Drive some nights ago, pretty interesting movie but it was quite puzzling, anyone else feel the same?

Duh. You can have like 3 different stories/endings in the movie.

It is very hard and chaotic to follow, after you watched it you might look for some interpretations. If you think Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway were chaotic and hard to understand, than it will be harder to digest. Those who are into Lynch and his dark and obscure art should appreciate this. If you haven't seen the two above mentioned masterpieces, I recommend you to check those out before start watching Inland Empire!

Yeah i think the only major Lynch work i haven't seen is Dune and Fire Walk With Me.

I recommend the HBO show Carnivale, if you liked Twin peaks. Well worth a watch, although it was cancelled after the second series...

Carnivale... yes. Recommended as well. Highly so.

I agree with a comparison to Twin Peaks, the occult aspect of mysticism is equal I would say, and thats the shared trait.

Carnivale is only two seasons, and I dare say too dark for the average TV viewer (has none of that Buffy the Vampire Slayer campy bullshit they have to include in all demonic styled viewings to keep things light for the twinkies that make up the majority of viewers)

DUNE!

That movie is great. I agree with it being a bit of a mess to follow, needs to be watched a few times to figure it out (unless you are previously aware of the factors going on... politics etc etc of the Dune series) There is a lot of things happening and at a fairly quick pace for a movie I think. But seriously, what a wickedly dark film.

This is how I wish Star Wars would be too. Dark and unforgiving. Laughing

Dune is fucking brilliant. I pop in the bluray and marinate in that movie's weirdness every few months. Really genius stuff.

One of the things Baltimore is known for is how its cheap rents have attracted an active arts community. Most of what they do is insular, incestuous, and terrible. But every so often a couple of them do something not awful that has wide appeal. Dan Deacon and Jimmy Joe Roche started a film series called Gunky's Basement a few years ago. Five dollar 35mm screenings of movies they love. Sometimes the movies are skippable. Point Break is coming up in a couple of weeks and I couldn't care less. But last year they showed Dune. That was an experience. I'd wanted to see it on the big screen since I was a teenager and the movie didn't disappoint. It was as phenomenal in the theatre as I expected. That was definitely not the audience consensus, though. A lot of the Gunky's crowd are hipsters who just want to go to something Dan Deacon sponsors. They were walking out in droves. Watching garbage like that fail to comprehend Dune made it that much better.

Dune is a fucking mess...

I'd rather see Jodorowski's version, but it would probably be shitty too. A very hard novel to translate to the screen.
