We've had a toast for Andrew. Here's one to The Baron!

Hard one. I hesitate between "Vampyr - Throne of the Beast" and "Empire of Blood", but I kind of like his whole disco.
Great excuse to give them a spin. Laughing

Vampyr. I always play that one after listening to Nastrond - Toteslaut, along with Carpathian Forest's Bloodlust & Perversion demo - those are three recordings that capture the morbid, putrescent aspect of vampiric folklore instead of polished gothic kitsch presented by most of other bands. It's like Herzog's Nosferatu vs. Coppola's Dracula.

I went with Empire of Blood, but Vampyr... is close behind.

Trivia and personal memories, of the early days of Black Funeral and the USBM scene, would be greatly appreciated!

Was good up until he went Industrial. I like Industrial Black metal and Industrial music in general but Az-I-Dahak and Ordog weren't very good. I haven't checked out Waters of Weeping and Vukolak. How are those two?

This band and Crimson Moon really nailed the vampire theme.

Apart from Az-I-Dahak, which I think is ok, I never checked them out.
I like that Sorath 7" though, same guy, so I guess I'll be listening to Vampyr this weekend.

Not a particularly remarkable band exactly but I guess I'd say the first two are somewhere in the ok to mediocre range, even if both have been gathering mostly dust for the last years. Of course vampires wouldn't complain about that.

There's that one cool track though. It's on one of the first two. You know what I'm talking about. It's the one with... the riff.

Not sure what one song you're referring to?

Vampyr without a doubt. I've a lot of fond memories or correspondence with him and Karl from Nåstrond in that period. Interesting people but then Mike became what he became and that wasn't very interesting anymore.

I think Az-I-Dahak was recorded with MIDI software, hence the way it sounds. I think Ordog was the same, but I never heard it.

The last few albums have been a true return to form but even more depraved sounding.

Anyone dig the recentish EP that came out on Dark Adversary? I was meaning to pick that up ages ago but eventually totally forgot about it.

My vote goes to Vampyr as its the only album I've heard in its entirety. Here's to hoping the Empire of Blood LP repress surfaces sometime in the near future now that DAP is active again.
