Username abarlum was telling me that Claws is better than Hooded Menace. Not sure I agree, but what are some other examples of a band dude's side project being better than his main band.

Besides Jeff Walker's country band.

I really don't think there are a lot of examples of a project being better than a full band.
Define "side project" anyway. A lot of people are just in multiple bands, no specific focus on one more than the other- which is really the only defining characteristic. A lot of people might look at the most popular band and consider that to be the "main" band, but what if the musician doesn't see it that way? I guess I just don't know how you qualify these things, unless the musician explicitly states the band to be a "side project".

While I agree that Zyklon-B was excellent, I can't think of a single member whose main band, at it's peak, was lesser than the Zyklon-B MCD. The only band I could maybe agree on would be Satyricon, but even then, you'd really have to catch me in a particular mood.

Somewhat similar in sound, though- I'm going to say Niden Div. 187. I'm sure the same argument could be made, though- a lot of people would surely prefer Dawn, for example.

I don't know if "side project" really applies, but I think Cruciamentum is much much better than Grave Miasma.

I enjoy Caostruppen a good deal more than Blasphemous Noise Torment.

Grave Miasma is the better band, in my opinion.

Grave Miasma and Cruciamentum sound like two sides of the same coin to me. One is murky, hypnotic, and atmospheric, the other violent, insistent, but no less atmospheric.

Two totally different songwriters and influences, maybe Sadistic Intent influences somewhere in the middle of both bands at a push. They're not that comparable at all.

I don't really think of Claws as a side project or Hooded Menace as a main band, or at least I'm not sure that was intentional. Lasse came back with a bunch of projects all at once - Hooded Menace and Claws launched basically at the same time, it just so happens that Hooded Menace was the one that really took off, so I think naturally he's paid the most attention to it.
