|
|
I hold this album, "Filosofem" by Burzum, to be some of the more powerful, emotionally moving and depressing black metal out there. The monotony, the screeching vocals, the shit-ass (perfect) production, etc, makes it a fantastic black metal record. I am, though, yet to find something in the similar vein.
Although I have a hard time buying the whole depressive suicidal bullshit, i have scanned that genre in search for something that bears similarity to Burzum's opus, without considerable success. Less "i really want to die and i am so sad but somehow i wont kill myself because i am an attentionwhore piece of shit" and more of that suffocating, depressive, utterly sullen atmospheric brand of black metal which constitutes "Filosofem".
So, any recommendations? _________________ ...BUT WE ARE ONLY HUMAN

| I'd personally recommend VEIL (U.S.). Very atmospheric, raw, competent Burzum worship. |

Abyssic Hate "Suicidal Emotions", if you can get past the depressed image/lyrics.
Good mix of Filosofem and Brave Murder Day/Discouraged Ones era Katatonia (without the clean vocals) |

None really, it's an album that's hard to worship through music. _________________ http://www.UnbornProductions.com

Velvet Cacoon. I'm fairly sure of that most of their music was composed while jerking off to Filosofem and arguing with me on FMP so I guess you might enjoy them if you're into late Burzum. _________________ Permaban him

Interested in trading a dub of Apokalypsimz for a dub of Purpurearagotamiceps?

Or pins-tapping-sheets-of-A4 drums, opened soda can sizzle guitar sound and 2:00 to 2:15 AM bedroom riffs worth 2 pennies. Yeah if you can get past these AND the depressed image, I'm sure it's a great album. _________________ §:-«l |

I never thought this album was depressing or sad or anything like that. I often see it tagged as such. Sounds more reflective and introspective to me. Maybe I could see that comparison being drawn on the most broad basic sonic levels (raw black metal) - but the 'feeling' is totally different for me. Just my useless .02.

I fully agree on the notion that the album holds significantly more qualities and atmospheres than the average "DSBM" album from the 2000's, and I think "reflective" and "introspective" is two very suitable words to describe the album. Never seen it in that way, but you have a good point. The whole album just seems.. personal. Sobbing with insight, determination, will and introspection.
The atmosphere just seeps of strong, vivid emotion; tranquility and hatred/gloominess at the same time. Fantastic album, too bad he didn't record other songs for it as well. Would've loved to hear "Ea" , "My Journey to the Stars", or "Det som En Gang Var" in Filosofem versions. _________________ ...BUT WE ARE ONLY HUMAN

Suicidal Emotions is a good album, but it has nothing do do with Filosofem. _________________ Sale list (Burzum, DTL, Sunn O))), Darkthrone, Abruptum, Windir, Hellfest, Shining, Fissur, ...) : http://www.nwnprod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=710004#710004
