It's weird, my lady friend was in town for the weekend & we went record shopping Friday. I scored three used Bowie records before we discovered it was his birthday... and now he's gone, two days later. Unreal. I had the privilege of seeing him back in 1990 on the Sound & Vision tour and going backstage... somewhere at my mom's place I still have his guitar pick & setlist. An absolutely amazing experience to say the least.

Im going to spin Ziggy Stardust now. Rest In Power, Thin White Duke.

Have been thinking in the back of my mind the past couple days about how I should check out the new album and then this happens. Fuuuuuck! What a loss.

All Hail David Bowie!

He released this video only 4 days ago. It could well be laced with some knowing hidden messages about what was to come: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-JqH1M4Ya8

And of course the video to the title track of the latest 'Black Star' album is just on another planet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kszLwBaC4Sw

Fuck. Small consolation, but I'm glad he got to finish Blackstar. Obviously not everything he did is to my taste, but as a volume of work it's pretty incredible. Quite unique in the way he was able to make music which touched so many people and was so popular but which was also so fucking strange in terms of the "high art" elements.

I recently spent an afternoon at the "David Bowie is..." exhibition from the Victoria and Albert museum which was touring here. Really fascinating stuff in terms of the snapshots of his library and reading habits.

And now, of course, we'll all get to deal with the twin peaks of sycophantic gushing and contrarian belittlement.

Sadly I'm kinda resigned to Leonard Cohen being in his 90's and obviously on borrowed time. Cool to see him still putting out some decent albums though. Same or Neil Young, he's not looking too crash hot these days either.
