Wolf's Lair Abyss because it contains some never used/lost Euronymous riffs but still it's weak as hell and Maniac sounds horrible.

RIP MAYHEM 1984-1994

I have a soft spot for Wolf's Lair Abyss simply because it came out as a 'rise from the grave' type of deal shortly after I got heavily into De Mysteriis and it takes me back to that time. I still think the music is fantastic, but the vocals were and are a complete travesty. He sounds like a stuck pig at best and a grandmother tumbling down the stairs at worst.

I heard Grand Declaration once and fucking hated it and haven't heard a Mayhem release since, maybe it's time to stop being so hard-headed and give Ordo a listen?

I love all Mayhem, from their beginnings to nowadays.

Ordo Ad Chao is the best stuff Mayhem has done since DMDS.

You're absolutely right. But OAC a major disappointment purely because Mayhem had once represented more than just some "great riffs".

No one is listening to Ordo Ad Chao for the riffs. Album is too murky. I like the album for it's truly dark atmosphere and elaborate songwriting.

I think there's great "riffs" all over the album. Not in a "Rape Humanity With Pride" way. But it's loaded with memorable moments.

Voted for Ordo, love that album when I'm in the mood for it.

I like GDoW quite a bit for what it is. The riffing reminds me of Voivod, and I really like Maniacs spoken word parts (not the rap parts, though), and he sounds a thousand times better doing that then his horrible screeching.

Wolf's Lair Abyss surprised me quite a bit when it was released... I haven't listened to it in years though so I'm not sure how it'll hold up to my ears.

Chimera fucking sucks. It's the only album from any era of the band that plays it safe.

I just made myself sit through the entire album and I can't say I'd ever want to hear this again. Mayhem or not, it kind of sounds like a mix between new Root and Deathspell Omega, both of which I can't stand. I suppose at least they're not still trying to make De Mysteriis again, but it's still not my cup of tea at all.

I enjoy or respect all Mayhem except Grand Declaration of Failure. It tries to be so many things and ends being nothing. A couple of riffs here and there, and annoying record overall...

I really like Wolf's Lair Abyss for most of the already mentioned reasons, and Chimera; there are a lot of good riffs, I think it fits with Maniac and is one of the few ultra-produced BM albums that do not try to have much atmosphere and yet still are powerful.

I like 'em all except for Chimera.

Love Ordo Ad Chao except for the sound quality, the production's very cool but it sounds like mp3s or something... they should remaster it.

Which songs specifically (or all of them) had the unused Euronymous riffs?

I'm pretty sure Ancient Skin was is one of them.

Someone has uploaded their first post-reunion concert at the East Club "Hangar", Bischofswerda, Germany, on June 21, 1997. It's staggering how bad Maniacs vocals are here. I never understood why he went for that silly "snake voice", instead of the style he used on Deathcrush.

I don't remember exactly, I don't think there are full songs borrowed, but here and there you can spot some typical Euronymous riffs. Blasphemer have a totally different style of guitar playing so it's easy to find which riff he wrote and which riff was reused.
