any thoughts on Dark Funeral?

collected about 5 albums from them over the years and started listening to them finally haha, well instead of starting with the oldest to the newest i make it this time from the newest release to the first. i always had in mind they were very fast and rough played BM, listened to "Attera Totus Sanctus" and it sounded like BM on drugs (the production seemed not well here at all though, maybe thats the issue, the guitars are too silent here). dunno if i like this release or not, will move on later with another release then.

your opinions?

They have some songs I like + I really enjoyed their gig 6 years ago.

The debut-mini was ok when it came out, but not more.

Thanks to the stupidity of Mr. Parland, they became a complete joke quickly. After he left, the music got even more uninspired, saw them live later and they sucked big time.

Last thing I heard from them were some equally uninteresting cover-versions.

A perfect example that 90% of all Swedish bands are worth shit.

They get a worse rep than they should. Sound is alright, not bad, problem is that if you listen to the first 2 minutes of their records and skip to the last 2 minutes, you haven't really missed anything.

To me Dark Funeral is one of those bands that makes me feel "why am I listening to this when there's so much more inspired stuff out there". They just always feel so bland and generic to me.

Fist song that i have checked from them was "My Dark Desires" from the Blackened Vol.I collection, which i have find it ok.I find (and have) their first three releases (MCD + LP'S) pretty decent, but i don't think that their later releases have something to say...

To be fair, I think this band's main problem was too many line-up changes from the beginning.

From what I see, only that turkey Ahriman is left as original member, similar to MARDUK with Morgan.

oh seems i wont have hope for surprises for the other releases then, well let's hear. then im more curious about the first releases. the ATTERA TOTUS SANCTUS has perhaps 1-2 songs i quite liked but the vocals destroyed them.

the secrets of the black arts is still a monument to me in this swedish substyle of blasting BM/"norsecore", on the one after that they already started getting worse.
