Never liked this band, but this cover looks like a parody of the rappers of that time.

No, it was a straight-up rap parody. Or Anthrax doing a Beasties homage.

Might have been a rap parody but a few years later they made a song with Public Enemy. Many awful things in music were done after, but this could be Ground Zero.

i don't think so because there was nothing "new wave" about Anthrax, compared to, say, Helmet or Fear Factory, who both eventually collaborated with rap groups and who were probably most responsible for blurring the lines.

personally, i think i could still give legitimate new wave-styled metal a chance.

Well check out the Judgement Night compilation for more Hip Hop / Metal collaborations:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBNRcFA63xg

this may very well have invented the abominations named Limp Bizkit etc, but that would be the same like blaming Burzum for all the morons infesting black metal nowadays.

The Judgment Night soundtrack was great. I lost the tape a long time ago, sadly.

yes the Helmet/House Of Pain collaboration was on that. and then one of the House Of Pain guys was in Limp Bizkit, who probably reused/rewrote that Page Hamilton riff 100 ways, and spawned 100 clones, so there you have it.

I would blame early RHCP and Faith No More. Incorporating the funk.

AND... Ross Robinson.

well with regards to "rap metal", i think the Aerosmith/Run-DMC thing and the Beastie Boys were the most obvious and most visible attempts at the mold, and those were Rick Rubin's doing.

but i believe Fear Factory was the first band to be described as "nu metal" and i always assumed it was in direct reference to the "Cars" cover/collaboration with Gary Numan.

I don't think nu-metal has anything to do with new wave....

seriously. I wouldn't even call Numan new wave... and that Cars cover didn't even come out til like 99?

Faith No More had heavy bass and rapping and was on the radio, playing shows with GnR and Metallica... I think that has to be one of the biggest bands with exposure to influence retards like Korn and shit.
