Has this been done?

I have a lust for some nasty Teutonic speed metal (no thrash) but with string flapping rumbling guitars. Anyone?

I always thought some ARGHOSLENT riffs sound a lot like Speed Metal if not downtuned...

Heavily influenced by Running Wild sometimes indeed.

Hmmm, maybe this? Not sure about the tuning though.

How downtuned does it have to be? I mean, Slayer was tuned half a note below E and D sounds tight as well.
But I guess you're looking for the lower end.

It seems like downtuning became popular at the same time production techniques started going for the clean sound we all love to hate.
So finding good old fashioned sounding speed metal with lower tuning seems quite the quest to me.

Not Teutonic but I think Black Metal by Venom was quite downtuned.

Enjoying all these suggestions so far, thanks!

Id love to hear something like early Vectom with a sunlight studios guitar sound, that would possibly be the greatest thing ever.

But if you downtune and use thick enough strings - they won't be floppy Wink
