How much of your music collection do you actually listen to often?
Do you cull or downsize your collection much?

In my house I had a whole wall full of music, hundreds and hundreds of CD's. I only really listen to 10% or less of it these days. Most of it just sits there. This morning I got sick of it and put all but around 50 in boxes and now I have a ton of extra space in my house.

I got sick of having in my head that I needed to hold onto all these records for a collections sake, with tons of shit just sitting there only being listened to rarely. Quality over quantity.

Quality over quantity indeed.

I cull in cycles. Every 2 or so years.

Agreed! I buy sparingly and choose well. It's been my mantra for the last decade or so and never fucked me over once. Fuck mindless collecting and consumption. It's for cunts.

Some years I've been storing all my cd's and tapes in storageroom thats in my garage. Once in awhile I pick something like dozen of selected cd's which I bring inside house or take them to car.

Cd's and tapes arent so decorative things as LP's are. When had cd's inside the house of course every guest wondered how many I had but dont need that "ego boosting" anymore, its not competition and quantity doesent win quality. And hated when idiots who didnt know alphabetic order messed with them with their greasy fingers;
"Hoho, you have lots of cd's but I havent ever heard any of these bands, hoho, so funny..." or "Why on earth you still have cassettes here...?"

Fuck you, its not my fault that you know only Metallica and Iron Maiden and most extreme thing youve ever heard was Children of Bodom.

Yep, I spent months selling off all the shit that I found I just didn't like or listen to anymore. Sold/traded it and got some expensive items I was missing. Collection is really slimed down now and I only buy what I REALLY want. Actually found it makes getting a NEW record a bit more special, like back when I was a kid and had no money.

Selling the shit you dont listen is the way to go...thought even better if you manage to buy only quality stuff in the first place...

True but I found that there's a lot of stuff I bought that at the time I loved, but it's been gathering dust ever since. Swedish PEST for instance or most of my DSO stuff.

My entire cd collection (about 1300 cds), as I only listen to vinyl, tapes and mp3s. I wouldn't mind getting rid of it, but cds aren't worth shit at the moment, and I'm not interested in selling it for a fifth or less of what I've invested in it.

There's a lot of shit in my collection I keep for nostalgic purposes, but over the years I've been growing more and more fascist in my purging of unwanted mediocre albums...

It was a time, when I refinanced my mortage, and bought alot of shit, that really was a shot in the dark. much of these LPs I try to get rid of, other than that my collection is still growing. I dont really have alot of practical conciderations, since I live by my self, and there is no broad here demanding more space for feminine stuff Razz

I've sold off/traded a lot of my collection, but regret getting rid of a few things now. Like I wonder why I sold my copy of Setherial's Nord album but kept a lot of albums that are useless compared to that one. Nostalgia I guess.
