Mare and OTOH both had shirts, but not hoods. Pretty standard fare. |

Terratur Possessions sold the Mare - Offerlam shirt with the red frame.
OTOH merch was:
Logo patches
Logo pins
Black sleeveless shirt with red print
Black shirt with black print
Grey shirt with black print
Grey shirt with red print

Their performance was incredible great. The sound was really good and clear and the atmosphere was really dark and mesmerizing. I'm sure it was one of their best gigs.
I think the setlist was:
Black Majesty
Ad Portas Mortis
Thus Singeth the Sword of Curse, Key of Truth
Flesh Altar Unfold
Black Rituals of the Cain-Cult
Mare
Spheres Like Death
Black Magick Funeral http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhq6BptjQPQ
New song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDW4V-a23U8
Nachtmahrwalzer - Invocation Of The Succubus
Do anybody know the name of the song which was played during the Mare preparation and before the song "Ad portas mortis"? |

I wonder if those OTOH pins are still available anywhere?
Black Majesty's set-list sounds spellbinding.... |

| Finally made it back home, and I'm still stunned from what was happening throughout the last days. Svartidaudi, OTOH, Sortilegia, Mgla and Mare easily did the best performances I ever witnessed - while Brussels is the most fucked up city I've ever been too. Almost no shitheads and a top-notch organisation. This was simply the best gig/festival I've ever attended. Hails to all those maniacs and devotees who made this week an unforgettable experience! |

Not much to add beyond what others have said. Great venue, killer sound (if slightly loud and overdistorted at points), very few drunken assholes, etc.
Horna were crap, and I didn't get much into Behexen or Teitanfyre, but everyone else was somewhere between good and unbelievable.
Svartidaudi were fantastic - very physical and confrontational sounding.
Mgla simply reeked of meanness - powerful, tight as hell, at times totally nihilistic, at times oppressive and totalitarian, and at times triumphant. Would have been hard to outdo them if it wasn't for...
Vemod. Simply the best live concert I have ever seen. At the end of a few long days of beer, bands and Brussels I felt pretty dead on my feet. As soon as Vemod started I was totally transfixed and invigorated. The sounds of roaring, rushing torrents, and soaring winds, as the roof opened up to transport us into the nightsky, among the stars. An atmosphere like nothing I have experienced before. When they concluded I was simply lost for words. The album/demo/split are great, but do not hold a candle to their live performance. |

True. Apart from many headscarfed muslims, I saw on the first walk to my hotel a man who pissed in a public rubbish bin. Welcome to Brussels.
Nevertheless, among all bands I have seen Mgla were exceptional. What a performance. |

Saw some guy who had his kid wait a few feet away while he pissed at a bus stop right in front of the hostel. Brussels is a shithole, but NBM more than made up for it. It's the single greatest event I've ever been to and probably will ever go to. Huge thanks to Terratur and everyone else who made the event what it was, as well as the people I met along the way (Deutschbags, Englishmen). Polackentango was an ass, but absolutely hilarious at the same time. Kept telling me when he was going to "make wiolence", why he liked to kick some guy because he looked like the singer from Rotting Christ, and what cool guys Black Witchery are. The drunk Canadian faggot was far, far worse. Good thing someone beat the fuck out of him. Every band I was excited to see lived up to or exceeded my expectations, with Mare, OTOH, Sargeist, Behexen, Pseudogod, and Mgla being particular standouts. _________________ "man i love slayer so much i grew my face "

Short hair, red shirt? Didn't he get beaten up during Vemod? I think Kim from Lifelover did that, elbow punched him because he harassed some of Kim's female friends. Who would've thought.
But the Canadian guy started talking to me after everything was over, and what a mess he was. "I'm in Brussels and I need to find the way to Africa because Belgium? Some guy beat me up and now I need Belgium to go to Brussels because Africa. Do you have the website? I need the website. Sorry I'm drunk but Africa and Brussels..." _________________

Met the Canadian guy earlier during the fest, and he seemed like a cool enough guy. However, that last night he was an utter mess and after Kim(?) smashed his fase in, he came over to me and almost ruined Vemod for me. I almost punched in his face again. And it was very weird, because he didnt speak English anymore, he said some french words and said something about going to france from what I could gather. Talked to his friends who said he doesnt speak a word french, so this guy was truly possessed. Good times.
I will make some kind of a statement as soon as I can sort out all the impressions and get some time to sit down on a computer.
Could this fest have been better? I think not. What an amazing weekend... _________________

Amazing fest, I agree. I wish Mare, Black Majesty and Vemod sounded as good on record as they did live, haha.
The only bands I didn't enjoy were Sortilegia and Horna (except for the dick-showing part. The upset looks on many people's faces were priceless.) My favourite one were Mare, Vemod, Pseudogod (great surprise live), Svartidaudi and Mgla. It was almost weird being there and witnessing killer performances after killer performances. I had a great time for sure.
I thought everything was a massive mess merch-wise though, overwhelming and so annoying to browse that I only left with an LP and a tape.
Also, I don't care about drunk people but a MASSIVE fuck you to the guys who lost control of their car next to the venue on Friday, almost killed me and my friend and left laughing without checking whether we were ok or not. They almost got in another accident a little bit further down the road too. Hadn't we seen their car seriously drifting and ran on the sidewalk I probably wouldn't be posting on here today. |
