So, 2017 is almost over and many people are (logically) discussing the best releases of this year. However, I think it's also interesting to discuss releases which disappointed you in one way or another.
I've narrowed mine down to three:

1. Morbid Angel - Kingdoms Disdained.
I disliked practically everything about this record. Generic vocals, terrible production, bland chugging riffs and a lack of the typical MA/Trey weirdness.
One song (The Pillars Crumbling) is total Slipknot worship.

2. Venom Inc. - Avé.
After seeing their ripping live performances of Venom classics, I had expected at least some quality. What I heard was a dime a dozen modern Venom record that every one would ignore.
Unfortunately, I only remember that video for the song that sounded like Rammstein.

3. Memoriam - For the Fallen.
These guys were supposed to somewhat fill the gap that Bolt Thrower left, but for me, they did not even come close. Karl Willetts sounds like a tired old man, and the riffs sound like something an extremely watered-down Benediction.
They only made me miss Bolt Thrower even more.

What are your personal biggest disappointments of this year?

I second OP, but would like to generalize his statement. The mindless praise of bands/artists that once made the difference, but are now a mere shadow of themselves, seemed to take new heights this year. MA, Memoriam and Venom Inc. are some very good examples of this.

Didn't expect anything. Did not believe any hypes. No disappointments.

If gigs count, Absurd's performance in Kiev was one (to say the least).

Morbid Angel - Kingdoms Disdained

ok they returned with a Death Metal album but this one is the minimum they can do, generic riffs (a lot of them are almost a copy of their older riffs) with no inspirations, solos are almost absent, the production is crap, boring drums, no memorable song, my favourite is Garden of Disdain and it's as good as the worst track on Heretic (very underrated album!) Tucker's vocals are maybe the only decent thing on it

Hetroertzen - Uprising of the Fallen

I hardly find the same level of Darkness as before, the songs are too Black n'roll and catchy, the riffs seems less inspired, far from a masterpiece like Exaltation of Wisdom. I just have the impression to listen to every single other generic Black metal band with occult atmospheres. They lost a lot of their mystical approach. I prefer to give my attention to the new album by Die Kunst Der Finsternis, to come later...

Venenum - Trance of Death

Given the sinister magnificence of self-titled EP I expected that the album will indeed provide what its title promises but it's just a well-crafted, above-average death metal. Nothing more.

Not the only disappointment this year, but definitely one of the biggest..
I just can`t (and don`t want) to get into the new style. As said, the EP was pure gold.

Watching 13th Moon perform was probably my biggest disappointment concerning live shows.. They were absolutely not able to recreate the sound of their record on stage..

Morbid angel: one more useless record. They should really stop.
Memoriam: i was expecting some quality death metal but this is just generic and uninspired.
Hetroertzen is not as good ad the last 2 but not a let down.
