Yes. Besides all the underground hype, I think it's way better music like for example Mefisto or Obscurity, which are both overrated IMHO. I would rank them with Tormentor, Sarcofago and Slaughter Lord when it comes to obscure 80ies evilness.

The bands you listed are all godly.

After they started as a quite average slam DM band, I really, really like the new direction GONE POSTAL and I think they should be mentioned as well here. Saw them live twice and both times they killed everything. They're frighteningly young though and don't 'look' BM at all but their new music is really, really good. Dissonant and disturbing at the same time.

I have to agree on CARPE NOCTEM too. Can't wait for their new material...

Potentiam - Bálsın is probably the best icelandic bm/metal release. It might be an acquired taste though. I myself am looking forward to Svartidauği and Gone Postal releasing their new Lps.

Myrk was awesome. Sounded like Wrath of the Tyrant in all the right ways. Ive got a few of their releases around here that I still pop in.

Quite recent discovery: VANSKÖPUN "Alsæla Gegnum Endurfæğingu" MC. Made a deep impact on me, these rusty compositions invoked by Vansköpun somehow makes me think of a shamanistic / chthonic ritual imbued with deadly Soma.

Still hoping to find a physical copy of this particular demo somewhere...

The Chao tape is great, but Svartidaudi transcends everything. Their album is a masterpiece.

I'm pretty sure Lamech Records still have that tape available.

Wann from Rebirth of Nefast is living over in Iceland now and he is recording the upcoming RON album there with JD (Slidhr/Myrkr/Haud Mundus). I think he is also recording the Slidhr album there too. So, not Icelandic bands but all great and all with a tenuous connection!

Any news on this?

I'm not really sure this demo was ever released as such, except spread to friends. I know some songs were featured on the "Fire & Ice" compilation disc released back in 1990something but I don't think anything else happened.

Just returned from a 3-week Iceland tour. Except for Dimmuborgir there was no band of interest, ha. Missed the 3-days festival in Reykjavik though and the band yesterday at the Keflavik festival was horrendous...

Interesting. I know about this band from years ago when a friend made a mixed CD-r for me with the song "Myrk" on it (which I have found on YouTube before, but seems to have since been removed unfortunately).
