I know Funeral Mist "Salvation" is on the list, and so forth, but what other records in the "Orthodox" vein are worthy of being a favorite?

Armagedda "Ond Spiritism" is definitely one that comes to mind.

"Orthodox" refers to less or more Noevdia bands? Then Salvation, SMRC for sure. Do Mgła, KSM count too?

The term "Orthodox" BM has been used again & again by people unworthy of such mention (just check at the ridiculous "Orthodox Black Metal Webzine" thread). In my opinion, ALL Black Metal should be about devil/death-worship, but unfortunately any idiot is able to grab a guitar, play a bunch of power-chords in minor scale and call it Black Meta or even Orthodox BM.

All NOEVDIA releases are worship-worthy and otherwise AOSOTH, VI, 1st Ofermod, Ascension, MGLA, Nightbringer, Svartidaudi (etc...) are those that stand out for me.

I agree with this.
Also, can anybody tell me what's so great about Ond Spiritism? That album just sounds boring to me.

ondskapt -draco sit mihi dux is a great album

.in fact the three ondskapt
lps are superior to most of the drivel released under the orthodox black metal banner in my opinion .

It doesn't have that orthodox sound I susoect you're looking for but few releases I've come across are as profoundly occult as Dissection's Reinkaos.

Otherwise, these are often on my go-to list for that particularly "serious" sound:

Hetroertzen - Exaltation of Wisdom
Dødsengel - Dødsengel
Urkaos - I
Ithdabquth Qliphoth - Fyre Walk With Me

On a (vaguely) related note, can anyone recommend any truly occult doom? The closest I've come so far has been Saturnalia Temple, Huata and Dark Buddha Rising. Any other suggestions welcomed.

One underated orthodox BM album is the first ORCIVUS full-lenght. Unfortunately, the second album was boring as hell.

Many very important albums has been mentioned.
But Malign - Fireborn/Divine Facing should be checked out.
As well as Watain - Lawless Darkness.
