I knew some kat that said and I quote "oh dude I started with Autopsy" and that's how he would explain his disdain for bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden and such.

I can't say much since I'm the one that called Thin Lizzy shit. But I really don't believe a lot of the shit that people post here how does someone not grow with bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Emperor and such.

To be fair I know plenty of people that grew up on punk and such, and know Peste Noire but skipped a lot of what I would consider essentials. But that's just me I guess. Like I would like for them to experience the brutality that is Legion or the sadness that is Mystic Places of Dawn but they just don't get it

This. I mean holy shit. I understand different tastes and all but some people here seem like complete narcissists. The kind that only like music that is specifically about them or their life or their mood. This song is about meeeeee

I'm started to see that more people dislike Emperor than I thought.

I like Emperor. Gotta love those keys behind walls of black metal riffs. Some bands don't do it for me though, like Carach Angren. Not a fan of them.

I only listen to black and death metal. Can't get into anything else.

Why? Is everything else too soft and gay?

I have a friend with similar taste. Never listened to Maiden, 'Tallica, Slayer, got into black metal after listening to Linkin Park, than somehow heard of Dark Tranquillity, registered at one forum and became a fan of Archgoat, Katharsis, DsO, Antaeus and a whole bunch of dark ambient projects. He doesn't listen to thrash, heavy, doom, prog, nothing but extreme black metal and melodic death.

I don't understand that.

He sounds like he hops on whatever seems trendy at the time.

I like a select few bands / albums from every sub genre, and my choices from each seem nonsensical to a lot of people I think... but I really don't understand the intense love for:

Iron Maiden
Anthrax
Overkill
Swedish death metal

I like traditional metal like early Judas Priest (actually really dig it... Stained Class and Sad Wings rule) and some more obscure stuff like Witch Cross, and of course Mercyful Fate...

For thrash I like German bands and Slayer, Dark Angel, Demolition Hammer, Morbid Saint, stuff like that...

For death metal, I like Finnish death metal a lot... Demilich, Demigod, stuff like that... also early Morbid Angel, Deicide, Immolation first album, Incantation early stuff and first album..

For doom metal, I like a lot of stoner bands like Bongzilla, some EW albums, of course love Black Sabbath first four albums...

Pretty much a black metal guy at heart. I've probably heard Transilvanian Hunger more than any other album in existence.

Spot on. Whole black/death metal individualism is after all nothing but illusion to be that unique snowflake without being able to adjust to the fact that snowflakes get bulldozed away sooner or later.

Musical hugs. Compensating for lackluster parenting.

Reign in Blood is probably the most overrated album of all time, total crap. But then again, it is just my opinion. Probably most of you wonder how can anyone dislike it, but I ask you the same thing about Sarcofago or Bathory for example.
