Why re-issues are douchebag:

1.

Quote:

As usual, the damned bonus live tracks to fuck up the reissue!!
I hate it!!!!

Nothing like hearing an album and then getting subjected to the SAME tracks in demo or live format, e.g. crappier and redundant.

It's better to just put out a 2CD set of complete demos & live so that it forms a unique listening experience.

2.

"Re-mastering" that consists of loading it into Pro-Tools and wringing it louder with compression.

3.

Apologetic liner notes and goofy pictures which totally ruin the mood. Save these for books like Murder in the Front Row or Glorious Times.

4.

I'm no communist, but it seems to me that after the label has made its profit on the first run, the artist should get a bigger cut and the price should go down. Oddly it seems like the converse is true.

My favorite example of ridiculous bonus tracks is the recent Morbid 3LP which features 1000 versions of the same 4-5 songs so they can charge 45 bucks instead of the price of a 7".

"Roadrunner needs to leave off the annoying bonus tracks. It lowers the sound quality obviously but also ruins the original flow of the a/b sides."

The worst is bonus tracks in the middle of the regular song order. But, this has been happening since forever.

I'd rather have a reissue than nothing.

I have to at least offer a good counterexample...Despite the crappy redone cover, the recent Demigod debut reissue was killer in large part because it included "Unholy Domain." Those are some bonus tracks anyone needs. But they are totally different songs, and very sought after. So I guess they don't really fit the OP's definition of useless bonus shit.

I don't mind if the bonus tracks are at the end of the album or on a separate CD. I can't stand re-recorded songs as bonus or some stupid industrial/hip-hop remixes.

When it comes to vinyl re-issues they either have a missing song or they add a couple bonus tracks for a double LP release and leave one side with no music (laser etched). Now the shipping cost increased so did the price of the release so that people can have some crappy live songs that they will never listen to.

Flaming Metal System on Crystal Logic is an example of this done well but I understand your point and generally agree.

I can't believe you guys get upset about extra music! if you really don't want to hear it just take the record off the player once the original tracks are up. Or you know, DONT' BUY IT! I can't fathom how some people on here seem to get so worked up about the most trivial of things

That's not a re-issue, that's a re-recording...and fucking lame. I know we're all supposed to be about blasphemy, but that is blasphemy to blasphemy lol.

Roadrunner does a lot of lame bonus tracks, and if you really feel the need, at least tack them on at the end, instead of dropping them into the middle of the record. But I do like the 2-for-1 releases they do (e.g. "Slowly We Rot" with "Cause of Death" which is in my car right now), it has to be great for younger kids who want a physical copy and didn't get these when they were new.

On the other hand, not all metal, but the bonus tracks for a lot of 80's stuff is good, because in the 80's a lot of bands released singles with tracks that never ended up on LP's. And not just B-sides, but A-sides as well (e.g. "In The Flat Field" from Bauhaus has great stuff on it, my favorite song on the re-issue wasn't on the original LP; the "Creeping Death" B-side covers that were tacked on to the "Kill 'Em All" represses; my favorite Echo and the Bunnymen song was only a single and is now on the "Porcupine" re-issue; "Israel" from Siouxsie and the Banshees was never on an LP until they did the singles collection, etc).
