Had a digital copy for a long time and always liked it but didnt quite love it. But like a lot of things that end up classic for me, it grows and grows on me as time goes on. Honestly my first impression was that it was another shitty sounding bm release with a good vocalist.

Now that I have a wax version and spin it end to end, I think the album is pretty flawless. Perhaps the riffs aren't mind blowing, but for me bm is not as much as it is about riffs (granted though good riffing always helps) as it is creating a believable mood and this album delivers. When I read the lyrics along with the music I think its all matched quite perfectly. They really painted a sick sense of ritual on this album that I think isn't matched anywhere else in this style. In another thread someone said this album was like talking to dead people while acid....fitting I think.

Obviously there is a lot of homage to Mayhem on this album, but I do not find it to be plaigaristic. I think they just really like that approach and no one has done it as well as Mayhem to this point so why not? Its still different enough to set itself apart imo.

I dont think it has the potential to reach the status of Mayhem's DMDS or anything, but its following will only continue to grow.

Still too early to tell, but the potential's there with it being an excellent album. Always though it kind of sounded like a cross between DMDS and early Baratharum myself.

Yeah I would never go that far.

I think it's a fantastic album, and easily one of the stand-outs from the last ten years. It definitely has the potential to become some sort of latter-day classic, but one that is conspicuously perched on the shoulders of its influences.

This thread needs more Henbane. The debut is great nonetheless.

No chance of it ever being a classic. 3/5 album.

Most people here have no clue what a real classic band/album is all about, the word should be used for timeless masterpieces that all metal fans praise regardless of personal preference/taste. Hell Awaits is a classic record, not some fucking generic Mayhem clone that no one except for norsecore fetishists knows anything about.

I'll have to agree.

I haven't even heard it but I'm 99,9% certain this is the case. Good albums don't equal great albums. Sometimes I feel like the terms "timeless classic" or "masterpiece" are thrown about carelessly as if sans any value.

Sometimes I feel that people are so cynical about 'hype' and recent releases that they aren't prepared to judge something properly, or even entertain that there are great, potentially classic, pieces of music being released.

Not at all. But you know, when newcomers with zero knowledge of metal like Blutkvlt/Zone call their latest youtube find "a classic" my bullshit alert sensors start vibrating.
