|
|
....or nearly flawless anyway.
since we all know that great bands can turn to utter shit overnight, what are some that didnt? i was discussing this with a friend and not too many sprang to mind.
autopsy
bolt thrower
ildjarn
incantation (maybe not a flawless catalog but definitely respectable))
graveland (havent heard every album but ive heard meritorious elements in every release ive listened to)
im sure there are many more...feel free to add to my list.
*please note the 3+ albums requirement. im not talking about bands that did a perfect demo, 7", lp combo or something like that. |

Immolation (Harnessing Ruin is the weakest, and by no means a crap album)

Witchburner is a good band. I only have one CD by them, but I plan on picking up some more. Endstille from Germany has a flawless catalog. |

Dismember, Asphyx, Atheist, The Chasm, Pestilence, Drawn & Quartered, Gorguts, Martyr, Mortuary Drape. (I expect to get a little flack on a couple - I know a lot of people don't like the last release by at least three of those bands.)
And I'd say Pentacle has a good start - just two full lengths so far but all their EPs and singles have been killer, and it's hard to imagine them putting out anything bad based on their previous track record. |

Good choice, Agent Cooper.
I would say that Dismember never turned into shit after "Pieces" but became very boring - the newest one sounds better again. Asphyx - God Cries is also not that hot...
Autopsy and Immolation would be my top picks _________________ Oh, what fun we have when we exist.

That's true about Asphyx, that album is kind of lackluster. Not awful, just not interesting. But "On the Wings of Inferno" made up for it IMO. That one is very underrated and underheard.
Dismember did crank out a couple of mediocre ones ("Massive Killing Capacity" and "Hate Campaign") but I think they've had a real revival since then. I liked "Ironcrosses" a lot and their last two are legitimate beasts of old school death metal. Overall there isn't a single Dismember album I dislike, but certainly there are about four that I hold above the others.
I agree with you about Immolation too, good call. |

@ illomen Point out our deficits in judgment, then!
I tend to ignore the fact that Carcass released anything after Necroticism.
Death turned boring to me after Human. _________________ Oh, what fun we have when we exist.
