Just got this on record today and listening to the album for the first time in about 10 years or so. I know this isn't fashionable here, but man the songwriting on this album and the production is so fucking beautiful. Its the only Opeth album I really like and obviously this was their peak. I have never seen the band live. By the time they started touring in my area they had already shit the bed. I would like to hear this material live......anyone know if they play much from this album these days?

Used to love this record, but can't stomach any Opeth at all these days. Surely their best work though.

They don't play too much of it on current setlists, no. Absolutely incredible record though.

GREAT record. Not my favourite Opeth album, which would probably be Deliverance, but it's got some great tunes. I like everything up to and including Heritage, I could not get into Pale Communion at all. But Heritage took me a while to click with too.

I still can't really do Damnation though, just a little too soft for my liking. I also still don't understand why "Face of Melinda" is so popular. Oh well, I guess this is why everyone says Opeth fans are gay.

But I don't judge a band by it's fans!

In London this year I think they only played The Moor from this album. Good performance overall.

I like it all up to Heritage which is good but not the Opeth I liked.
My favourites throughout their career are Morningrise, Deliverance and Watershed.

Amazing record, I saw them last year and they played White Cluster which happens to be my favorite Opeth track.

Hearing Serenity Painted Death live was pretty intense, I must say.

Yep, this album is incredible, haunting stuff. Definite desert island pick for me, though I don't give two shits about this band past this release.
Akerfeldt used to have one of the very best death metal voices back then. He literally sounds like a beast.

I saw them around the Blackwater Park era, and once or twice on the Deliverance tour as well, and I remember "White Cluster" and "Face of Melinda" being played at one point or another

Damnation is the only album from them that I listen to with any regularity.

Isn't this their least popular record? Probably my favorite. I never cared for Opeth way back but recent years I've started enjoying almost everything after their terrible first three records. Oh, and the last one was terrible except for a couple of tracks.
