The first album is more like VON/Bone Awl type of punked out black metal. Very simple riffs and chanted vocals. The second one is even more minimal and strippped down. I'm into it.

one of the most stripped down to the essence bands out there. there is absolutely nothing unnecessary here. only mandatory components assembled with excellent songwriting skill.

other bands try to either over-intellectualize metal or just think its cool to play raw metsl. hellrealm just knows what the fuck metal is really about.

the track on chicago metal hell sounds like it doesnt even have drums and its still better than 95% of the shit that gets released these days.

hellrealm is genius level.

sounds nice. i must check them out. Their artwork is quite atypical too, which is nice.

I like some of it, but it takes a bit of getting used to. John's music is better than his drawings.

Haha, 100% agreed! Both albums are great though, even if the second one wasn't an instant hit with me.

A program can't be the problem, only the person using it. Most hand drawn covers go through photoshop (or similar programs) for colouration and such things before they go to the print. It all depends on how you use it.
