I spend more money on shipping for trade packages than I spend on new records.

It's not a case of how much I can spend in a month as realistically I can spend a lot. It's finding the time to LISTEN to the records. And when I say listen, I mean listen- not a few cursory spins and then file away in the 'collection'.

I have no problem finding time to listen to my records.
But I think many of the guys here who spend huge amounts of money on records just do it for the sake of collection and not listening. People should start listening to the stuff they buy and not just collect it.

Yes, I too am not someone who will buy just to spin and file.

I find myself listening to far less vinyl when at school, so I buy less too because I'm not listening as much. It has a lot to do with the fact that I'm out of the house and on campus a lot, but also the fact that I live with a couple other people and therefore the urge to hole up in my room and spin some LPs doesn't come about as often as it does when I'm not living here.

Lately I've noticed that I still find new ways to appreciate albums I've been listening to for 15 years. Buying every new release and spinning them once or twice takes away time I could spend getting to know a classic a bit better.

Somewhere between $100-200 a month I'd say.

Normally around 300 dollars, including postage. Last month closer to 700, as I had a bit of extra money. But I need a fucking root-canal, so I hope I can limit the spending on vinyl a bit the next couple of months.

As this thread accumulates data, the posters should also break down their spending into which distro's get those dollars, that information could help the particular distro's at the next share holders meetings. Razz

Yes. Fuck buying stuff for the pure fuck of it like a gongoloid consumer. I buy to listen again and again, familiarise and enjoy. Many modern releases don't even warrant one listen.

I have absolutely done that.

Shit, I have them shipped to my work so I can sneak them in through the back door of our apartment when I "take out the garbage" then stick them in the shelves ninja style. Then, when she sees me playing the album, I can see that she is puzzled. Sometimes she will ask "when did you get that" and I say "I've had this forever...don't you pay any attention to me ?!" Prob between $100-$200 per month, less in the last couple months because I need spending cash for Rites next month . Trying to limit it to only things that are from my absolute top tier bands (like the recent deluge Wink of Manilla Road re-issues) and things that I know I won't be able to find for a good price ever again.

What I've learned from this thread:

I need to break into you motherfuckers' houses and steal your shit. A few home invasions, a few weeks of eBaying, and I'll be set for years.

I could have bought a luxury car with the money I've spent on records over the years.
I could lease a luxury car with the money I spend on records each month.

Not that much nowadays, not more than 200 every month. I dont buy every hyped records that I probably wont care about after 1 listen.

I was looking at my record shelf couple months ago and thought about that as well.
