I feel i am the only person in the world who hasn't got any Running Wild albums. Bit of a large, daunting discography. Please recommend and discuss. Links to previous threads are welcome too. Cheers!

Get Branded and Exiled and Gates to Purgatory, classic evil german speed metal! That's all you really need in my opinion.

Everything up to and including Pile of Skulls are pure classic heavy metal. The albums after Pile are not bad at all, maybe not so memorable. After Rivarly the albums feature drum machine and shitty bedroom type guitar sound.

Haven't even heard the albums after the comeback. Are they any worthy?

Agreed, the first 2 albums you really need (I also own only these 2), but the later releses are also okay. Esp the next 3 ones (Under Jolly Roger, Port Royal, Death or Glory).

Resilient is a really good album in the traditional Running Wild-style. But the previous Shadowmaker album is not worth for more than one listening!

Yep, Shadowmaker was really weak (esp the sound), didn't listen to the new one yet.

Do those new albums feature drum machine again?

I used to have Under jolly roger but I got rid of it which I now regret.
Never checked anything else out because it always seemed kinda goofy to me. Will listen to the first albums now though.

Drum machine or not, it's the same mechanical sound.

Shadowmaker was much more enjoyable for me than Resilient which I think is probably the worst Running Wild album along with The Rivalry.

Gates to Purgatory is one of the best German metal albums.

First three. I'm surprised to see few mentions of Under Jolly Roger; that to me is maybe their finest album, still true Germanic speed metal but with a few nods toward the more stately power metal that would become their standard by Death or Glory. Not to mention the title track is one of the greatest heavy metal songs ever written.

First two are their best for me,and from their rest 80s albums I like certain songs not the entire albums.I don't care about 90s and 00s.
