I had a B&O. My wife broke it while putting on a free Chris Cornell 7" she got when she bought his 1st solo CD. The needle got stuck on her sweater. At the time I couln't believe it when I had to buy a replacement for $100. I got rid of the table. I wish I had kept it for a second table now though. I traded it to a store for a couple records and the owner built me a couple record shelves.
I bought a lot nicer table. I have a Clearaudio Virtuso wood. It sells for over $700-$800 in the US. At the time I bought it I got it off the "grey market" for half that. I sold a couple Isis 12"s and a few other things and they basically paid for the cartridge!!
I believe if you have a properly aligned cartridge and take care of it and your vinyl it should last for a very long time. |

If they are of good quality, they will last a lot of years...and I mean A LOT. The one I got has like 5 years, and has no visible wear so far. I don't know where I will find another one though. It is a Fisher stereo. I have also a Technics turntable with a new stylus, which I will try to set up with my laptop. I have been tempted to buy those new truntable/recordable CD combos as they have become quite popular. _________________ Unbound celestial assassins... |

I have the same record-player (and needle) since 1995 (SONY, just like the rest of my stereo). I am pretty satisfied with that, even if I always think about buying a new record-player (and whole hi-fi stereo as well), but I rather spend my money on (new + old) records, haha.
I would like to buy that turntable,

Any experience with that? Any other suggestions (in that price-class, or cheaper - or just a new needle for my SONY)
My Sony was about 199.00 DM back then (about 100.00 Euro) _________________

I got one of these_
Cost me about 1500$ some years ago. I changed the stylus once.
The clever HI-FI people I know says normaly you need to change it after 1000-1500 hours playing time, depending on the stylus and the condition of the LPs (old beat up vinyls = shorter living-time on the stylus). |

Better buy a used, but good condition, Thorens or something for that price. Somewhere is a thread with some more recommendations...

I'm not an expert, but I'm sure that these are like 100% better compared to that Lenco. If you have good luck, try to get a TD-320 or 325.
As we're on the theme right now...I'm about to replace my old Magnat speakers with IQ Ted 4 or 5 speakers. Does anyone have experiences with them ? I'm keen to know how these cult Ruhrpott speakers sound like with "Metal"... _________________
