Not metal but Vaccine from Western Mass. They're recognized, but definitely one of the best bands in the punk scene right now. SQRM when they were active also applies.
I can't really say with metal bands, because i'm friends with a lot of dudes from them, so rather not be biased by mentioning five of them and forgetting some  |

I couldn't name 5 bands from Sydney now who blow me away, But one band who I don't see alot of people bring up are Innsmouth... Although I think their recordings could be stronger Live they fuking crush all surroundings..

Just about every band playing Metal in all of it's genres has a record deal of sorts in NYC ...at least it seems that way to me.
