I pretty much gave up on King Diamond after "The Graveyard" (though admittedly I liked "Voodoo"), so I wasn't seriously let down by the snooze fests that were "Abigail II" and "The Puppet Master".

I didn't have any high hopes for this latest album, either. I gritted my teeth and hit "play" expecting the worst, but after the first couple of spins I'm convinced "Give me your soul...." is the best KD material in over a decade. It's a far, far cry from bona fide masterpieces like "Abigail" and "Them", yet it still manages to capture a little bit of the old magic with those trademark epic LaRocque riffs and King's falsetto vocals (which finally seem to be in range once again.)

Overall I think this is a solid album, somewhat better than "meh" by King's standards, but still solid nonetheless when compared to most nowadays metal records.

Opinions?

I guess I should add I'm just happy to see King Diamond's still around putting out solid records. Grew up on King Diamond, still my favorite band / music personality, etc.. yada yada yada

...KD catalogue has been immaculate, this album was one that i could not get into. The production was too clean for me...

Title track was ok, the rest was full of the inferior songwriting and production value that has been his trademark starting with The Eye.

The albums all have their strengths and cool moments, but overall they don't have the depth of the first four.

The title track is really catchy. Think its Kings best in years.

I find it utterly bizarre that you would prefer this over the preceding 3 albums, especially since the latest one is pretty derivative of its direct precedents. That said, I like all King Diamond albums, with the caveat being that I have not heard The Graveyard and Voodoo.

Same here. And the new album is brilliant if you ask me.
Fortunately, I have yet to be let down by anything by King Diamond. The music has changed a bit over the years, but still remained on the path of quality.

I would say that basically everything else that King has done is better than
"Give Me You Soul... Please".

But of course it's better than other metal today. Can't get any worse, can it?

Give me your Soul.. Is in my opinion the worst KD album yet (Followed closely by Abigail ll, The Graveyard and Voddo - All other albums are great!)

House of God is for sure the strongest of the more "recent" albums.

Hm, in my opinion House Of God is probably the "weakest" album, still some absolutely killer tracks on it though, and the story is fascinating.

I think his biggest mistake was to record Abigail II.

BTW: The Eye really grew on me over the years, a very sinister album.

Snooze fests??? Shocked IMHO "The Puppet Master" is by far the best out of the "newer" King Diamond albums. Great atmosphere and one of the best stories the King has come up with. "Give Me Your Soul...", while still being an excellent album, was kind of a let down for me in comparison. Nice to see someone else likes "Voodoo", somehow that album seems to get bashed alot, something I don´t quite get, considering it has awesome songs like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uMLwSB1EzE

Anyway, opinions, assholes, blablabla... The King still rules! Hopefully there will be a new album at some point, that damn DVD project is taking ages already...
