I always find it funny how many black metal artist try combine black robes / swords etc with bullet belts. Ruins the atmosphere utterly like Sorteligia and Nastrond.  |

Depends on the whole picture, the intention behind it and probably a dozen other factors as well. There's no right or wrong here.
Plus, doesn't the electric guitars and synths also ruin the medieval atmosphere then? |

Not so bad point there, but rather distant from my argument. Using electric instruments to evoke certain atmosphere is not comparable to mixing somewhat equivalent equipment like capes and swords for example with bullet belts for the image of a band. I think bullet belts have nothing to do with the satanic and evil (or medieval?) presentation of black metal. Bullet belts are cool though.

Yes, but bullet-belts are Heavy Metal. Like spikes, chains, etc.
