Never seen them live, but judging from archived footage, I think it's better to see them now than it was 10 + years ago. They were filmed for a day-time, open-air show in SF back in 2003 and boy I tell ya, what a bunch of fat, washed-up, football fans they resembled. At least they've trimmed up somewhat since then. Their lowest point might be behind them, but eh......to be a Metallica fan is to be nothing much at all, as far as I'm concerned. It's like saying you're a U2 fan. So fucking what?

Their first six albums, actually. I totally dig "Load".

How do they "shit on their legacy" when they even play lots of old songs on concerts and don't badmouth the old stuff? If you mean they release crap albums, that doesn't qualify as shitting on their legacy.

But yes, I'm a METALLICA fan, been listening to the old albums now a lot since a long time. By the way, St. Anger is one of my favorites after the first 4! But I like all of them more or less.

Sure, they play old songs...but Hetfield still manages to ruin them all by doing that retarded "whoooaaahaahahahaahaheeeooo yeaahhhahaeeaaaahiieeyeeeaaah " shit at the end of nearly every line. Drives me fucking nuts and makes it practically impossible for me to enjoy it.

well er yeah, in hindsight, the word "fan" isn't really the word I meant to use, nor normally use to describe anything I respect or like. think i'll change it.. Wink

Saw them for the first time in '85...anything after MoP is an affront to their legacy...and it only got worse as they went on.

Too bad Lars didn't get Cliff's bunk.

But seriously: I acknowledge Cliff Burton as a bass player and he must have been a cool guy, but was he thaaaaat important for the music? As far as I know, his songwriting credits weren't that big, do you guys think And Justice For All would have been a better album with his presence?

I sort of dislike some statements made by Hetfield. Like how horrible it would be to listen to deathmetal for 24 hours, that he`s old lyrics were only words written in haste, while he put much more into the lyrics the latter years.
Thats fucking bullshit IMO, I remember thinking Metallica lyrics were the most meaningfull stuff ever, back in the 80\s.- Laughing

I can't believe he said that ! So, he claims that the lyrics to "Fuel" , are much more thought out than those in "Fade to Black", or "Creeping Death" ? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Hard to say. It's like asking "What would Bark at the Moon have been like if Rhoads had lived?" Yes, Randy was infinitely more important as a guitarist than Cliff as a bassist, but Cliff brought a wide range of influences to his playing from Genesis to the Misfits. Metallica had no idea who the Misfits were before Cliff, and his bass playing was really stellar to the sound. Flemming Rasmussen must have had a field day mixing that sound down a bit to keep him from overshadowing Kirk and James. Laughing

I think Cliff was more integral than Lars with infinitely more knowledge of music and theory, so anything is possible. But Cliff was FAR less annoying that Lars, so as a personal choice I want Cliff back. As far as AJFA...who knows what it would have turned into, but maybe it wouldn't have been so complex that it fell flat live almost all the time with the exception of "Blackened" that accursed "One", or "Harvester of Sorrow".

He's obviously brain damaged from years of Jager.

Tom Warrior said similar things during the 90ies about Hellhammer without being an alcoholic and no one seems to care about right now...
