| I think it's a genuine gold record, Dimmu Borgir both have multiple gold records (over 50.000 copies of one album sold in Norway alone) so why not Mayhem? |

| I think Mayhem sold 4000 of ordo in norway, so its not enough to be a genuine gold record. I think the limit for that is 25 000 copies. Pretty impressive still 4000, its not exactly eurodisco or rnb. I like the album thoug. I think its more in the vein of Blut aus nord and deathspell omega, than traditional black. |

I don't know if people give more attention to the music or more attention to the stories that turn around these bands (Mayhem, Burzum, Gorogroth and so on fromo Norway)... _________________ http://soundcloud.com/fabius-paulus/slave-of-satan |

In all seriousness, who cared about Mayhem BEFORE 1993? The truth is nobody really gave a shit until the media made such a big deal about Euronymous' murder and the church burnings. Mayhem would not be where they are today had it not been for the media attention they got in 1993... |
Heh, well this can be said about the black metal-genre in general if you ask me.
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is a milestone, with or without media. _________________ http://www.UnbornProductions.com

Obviously, no matter if this item is fake or not, it's utter crap!! On the other hand, I really think, that the album itself is bloody splendid, as it's very unique in sound, atmosphere and a lot more, although (post-Euronymous) MAYHEM most probably won't get any credit anymore, just for the sake of it for a lot of folks anyway, at least I can't get rid of that feeling. Noone gave a shit about MAYHEM before 1993 and the media hype? With all respect, but that's simply NOT true! I don't claim to have been jerking on the "Posercorpse" edition of "Deathcrush" "back then" or anything likewise, but MAYHEM were surely a more than often namedropped/-checked band in the underground! You simply can't take that away from them! ESPECIALLY when it comes to "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", you just can't overestimate the impact this album had (and still has!)!! Too bad, this one came out a little too late, to make people fully grasp the impact, comparable to EXODUS' "Bonded By Blood" which also was released too late for the band's benefit, also having been bootlegged ("Hardcore Metal" anyone?) prior to the official release of that. To this day I think, that DMDS blows ANY other Scandinavian Black Metal away, and contrary to the pretty en-vogue mocking of early 90s Black Metal, by a lot of folks nowadays, there were some utterly great records being released, still passing the test of time! (Obviously some didn't, making you feel pretty embarrassed about liking band x or y when it came out, but that's just me...) On a closing note, I just saw MAYHEM yesterday in Essen, quitting after ca. 50 minutes, no encores whatsoever etc.! They didn't even play ONE song from "De Mysteriis..." ("Freezing Moon" doesn't count, if you get my point...), but went for some bullshit from that crappy "Grand Declaration Of War" album instead! BOLLOCKS!!
P.S. Got your EP by now, Dave? _________________ "Slit my eyes, for they'll remember..." |

True that. Some interviews I stole from Seventh Blasphemer's Beherit tribute site.

| I probably would have liked "DMDS" more if Dead had been around to do vocals for it. I've always thought that those 2 tracks from "Projections Of A Stained Mind" showed Mayhem at their peak. Just my opinion... |

Commercialism and negation of values in Black Metal stopped surprising me years ago when someone linked me to a Darkthrone hoodie on HotTopic.com
I don't see how any of you can be surprised by this... after all, you all access the internet and are aware of the circus that "metal" is nowadays.
But honestly, it looks like something that would be done through Sports Illustrated. |
