Wolf was a Japanese heavy/power metal band that came a little late to the party, but still delivered on their demos, EP, and their sole full-length album.

Imagine mixing early Loudness with neoclassical metal and elements of USPM a la Riot's Thundersteel, and you pretty much get smokers that include the superb "Standing with Shout". Another thing that stands out are Tatsunori Matsumoto's over-the-top wails, which remind me a lot of what Ronnie James Dio, Vic Hix, and Minoru Niihara were doing in their prime.

Currently, drummer Nobuo Horie and bassist Ken Nishikawa are playing in virtuoso guitarist Katsu Ohta's solo instrumental band. I haven't seen anything about a possible reunion or even a reissue of their discography.

For fans of Loudness, Anthem, Prowler, Shok Paris, and Tony Moore-era Riot.

Interesting. I do love Shok Paris (Steel and Starlight anyway) and Tony Moore Riot. Standing with Shout indeed. Those crazy Japanese.

Great EP, I never knew about any demos. Looks like I have to track down that Roll Over CD.

Yeah, man. They rule. Not sure why they don't get a lot of talk from even the people into old school underground 1980s metal. Also, I like all of Shok Paris' albums, but that one is their very best.

Good luck. I've been trying to find a cheaper copy for years. Roll Over compiles their early stuff. "Standing with Shout" is still an amazing killer of a song.
