anyone that have a pro ject experience the notorious HUM? I picked mine up over the weekend and have it, although it sounds great on louder records. Lots of potential solutions online, figured I would check here before I try any.

Never experienced hum on my Pro Ject Debut 3.. Although it is grounded properly. Have you grounded your table?

Does it hum while nothing is playing or only once the motor is turned on?

Happens as soon as I turn my pre amp on without the motor running. I get no hum on the same set up with my technics TT.

I had "the hum". Started about a year after I got the table... took it into the hi-fi shop I bought it from and they said there was a known issue with some of the motors (this was a Debut III), they contacted Pro-ject who sent a brand new motor and the shop installed the new one for free. This was 5 years ago that it was replaced and it's been perfectly quiet ever since.

Edit: after reading the other replies I guess you have a different hum if it's happening even without the motor on. Something wrong in your preamp or receiver maybe?

Try plugging your components into a different outlet. That took care of my buzzing problem. Your outlet may not be properly grounded.

I used to use a preamp and it had a noticeable noise, like a hum. Sold it and stuck to integrated stereo receivers and have never had a problem since.

I've had no issues with my $80 Audiotechnica. As much as I'd love to have one of those 70s era full cabinets, finding one where everything works properly without breaking the bank is an issue. My only real requirement for a record player is that it has to have some type of lid, as I have three cats that love to mess with anything that moves.

Speaker question for the technologically adept:

I am looking to buy a pair of floor standing speakers, for less than $2,000. They will be powered by an older Denon integrated receiver, rated at 80 wpc (this will be changed at some point in the next few years). I've scoured Hifi and Audiophile sites but am left more confused than educated. Any advice on what I should be looking for, in terms of specs/features? Brands and models to consider are also appreciated.
