Exactly, that's what made me start this thread. A band can have a great overall sound, great vocals, good technical skills, the right recording and "atmosphere" but without some sort of hooks the record gets a listen when I get it and ends up on the shelf.
Some may argue that really bestial Blasphemy type stuff and raw noisy black metal are more about creating an "atmosphere" like some ambient music but even Ildjarn has hooks.... |

Spite Extreme Wing, this Spanish black metal band has some hooks and at least each song has memorable parts and it's own feeling. I have the latest 2 full lengths, I do not have the 1st album, but the latest 2 are good. Actually the lastest one has a sort of "happy" or "positive" vibe to it with hyperfast drumming. It kind of reminds me of old Sound Pollution speedpunk bands link G Anx and Cold World for some reason.... |
