The new album on Van is pretty damn monumental. Really entrancing and atmospheric without being boring in the least. Really martial, almost industrial sounding percussion. Definitely a healthy dose of doom in the riffs as well. Does anyone know if they perform live?

Live they are very intense. Not comparable with their studio CD/LP.

Great band, highly recommended!!! Try their debut demo CD as well, it is more raw but also worth checking out!
They performed some gigs since last summer, but now they are on hold, because the two main guys are living about a two hour driving travel away of each other and this makes rehearsing pretty difficult. I hope to see them again some time, because as Sv. said right, they are very intense live and transport the atmosphere of the album perfectly!

I could only imagine that he talks about "Einblick In Den Qualenfall" . Great record by all means, but the selftitled demo is great too.

Yeah, that's the one. DLP just came out late fall 2010.

Excellent band indeed. Funny how shitty their other project Graupel is in comparison.

For the most part yeah, though I found their most recent release to be a staggering improvement. They seem to have finally started utilizing the more bass heavy guitar sound that many of the other bands from that region implement. The songwriting is better too.

Ah, I didn't know about the DLP.

Yes, great album!

Funny you should say that. When the last Graupel came out I had a big brain fart and thought in my head it was Verdunkeln and was really bummed out on the stylistic change.

This new stuff sounds cool, staying in the same style but adding a lot more variation. Not sure i like it better than the pure monotony of the first album though.

Are you serious? The demo/mlp "Als der Nebel ..." is killer and the 2 splits and albums are great too.

And for the main question. Yes, they perform live. I saw them at the Sinister Howling gig in speyer, germany. On YouTube you can find some vids, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuUzUPDJLnU

I didn't like Graupel's 'Auf Alten Wegen...' album at all, but the new album 'Am Pranger' sounds like a different band altogether. Great song-writing with interesting/unexpected moments - and vastly improved sound.

I wouldn't have said this when I first heard it, but I personally think the new Graupel album is comparable to Ascension's 'With Burning Tongues'.

Indeed two great bands. But if you tjink about the demo
just take the vinyl as the CD-Rerelease has a bad sound.

Also try The ruins of beverast, another Van band, which
you may like if you're into Verdunkeln.
