When you hear "FALL 1979" ("Rhapsodik Bitonality"), that first track of that piece is the first sound we ever made together; no preparation, no contrivance, no warning.
This method --or non-method?-- became de riguer as our work ethic; we sought to engage in a novel idiomatic form that was written, just not by us...or anyone.
We had embarked on a partnership where angular invention and virtuosic speed were the priorities of an alloy OBSESSED with the advancement of the form.
The Thrashy flavor that occasionally shows through the fireworks betrays our common metal background, the speedmetal and thrash of our (separate) adolescences, which is most evident on "WINTER 2009" ("RAINBOW SUPREMACY").
This super-prog agenda has its own inherent risks; when an idiom is "progressive" --in a consensually-agreed-upon way-- it is often no more than a retro-sheep in prog-wolf's clothing. If "progressiv metal" dares to progress past what is arguably recognizeable as "metal" it is most often controversial and not universally accepted; this is affirmation of its formal annexations.
This awkward reception has, apparently, been the sort of audience thus granted to "Infinitum A.D.D. Nauseum", our fourth album in which the arrangement was expanded to include acoustic instruments not playable in western scales and a markedly out-of-fashion penchant for (ear-splitting) falsetto vokills and (obnoxious) delay abuse. We were sure that, despite the idiosyncrasy of the tonality, this forty-minute monolith (truncated to twenty-six minutes as "WINTER 2088" for this release) would be identified unequivocally as progressive extreme metal, perhaps so progressive as to be labeled "avant-garde" yet still characteristically metal enough to be so ID'ed.
We were wrong; the very metal-ness of this piece has been questioned, our progression, perhaps, too extreme?
Peut-être, mais je prétends, chers auditeurs, que par notre travail 2088 sera connu comme sans conteste idiomatique.
