| My favorite style of death metal personally is the atmospheric guard consisting of Rotting Christ, Acheron, Root, Therion, Cemetary, Amorphis among others. I'm interested in hearing new and/or unknown bands playing in this style. There isn't allot now. Alioth, Sacriphyx + a few more maybe.... |

| Check out Shaarimoth if you have not heard them, they play solid atmospheric death metal. |

NWN had a 7" from a band called Brain Storm a little while ago. They were a Russian band who released 1 demo and that 7". It's very bizarre and atmospheric death metal like nothing I've ever heard before. I was going to rip it to my computer today. I'll upload it when I'm done doing it. _________________ my medium of distant fingers |

I have their album "Current 11" (? title?). It's slow and doom ridden like old Morbid Angel but I wouldn't call it atmospheric. |

They're not new or unknown though as I asked for, just underrated. |

It's a sort of a toss up. These bands blur into both; I'd call them atmospheric death / black metal to their highest credit. |

early Nocturnus (Demo CD and the Key)
Drowned demo (Great use of keyboards)
Cathedral "forest of equilibrium" LP (side B is more deathly and less doomy. Amazing atmosphere on the entire album.)
Deceased "blueprints for madness" LP (King mentioned in an old interview that he was really into Septic Flesh. It shows on this album) _________________ The only email I have access to is nwnprod (at) gmail (dot) com. I do not have access to my old Yahoo addresses.

All REAL Black/Death Metal blurs into both, in essence at least. Aside from some musically differences, real Black and real Death Metal go hand in.
But anyway, I can't think of many newer bands that are creating atmospheric Death Metal. But when I think of such a term, the first thing that comes to mind is "Soulside Journey". That record is heavily on deathly atmosphere.
God Macabre was very atmospheric too. |
