Well, while we're in that category I don't understand why Dutch Spina Bifida is constantly left out when it comes the crushing mid-90s death/doom. Both, the demo tape as well as the first and last album "Ziyadah", offer everything one could possibly expect from that genre and are in no way inferior to the twisted sound of e. g. diSEMBOWELMENT imho. I mean, listen to a totally wrecking track like "Witchfire" and tell me that's not classic death/doom vehemence. These guys just shouldn't go unmentioned.

Talking about Spina Bifida. Thet have reformed and are doing their first live show on May 14th in Holland on the Dordrecht Doom Day together with bands like 40 Watt Sun (ex-Warning), Officium Triste and so on.

Castle from Holland is a killer band too and Beyond Belief as well.

I always liked the Anthropomancy (UK) demo, although not listened to more than the first song for an age.

I always thought Swallow The Sun were just slower Melodic Death than anything. Daylight Dies is pretty good though, great live band.

And I might be with the minority, but I like everything Katatonia has done. They have a very unique sound that no one has imo. I know their stuff is more rock than metal these days, but some of the stuff they come up with is pretty amazing. Though I don't think they can top Dance Of December Souls...some of the best atmosphere on a album ever.

I second all of this. Swallow the Sun won me over when I saw them live with Katatonia a few years ago. Great band.

I love everything Katatonia has done. Oddly enough, the only album that I find boring and don't want to listen to is "Brave Murder Day", which seems to be the favorite among most old school fans of the band.
I love their depressive rock stuff. Catchy and very gloomy. Jonas vocals have improved on every release as well in this style.

Abyssic Hate and similar 'suicidal' bands owe a great deal to mid to latter period Katatonia. Discouraged Ones and Suicidal Emotions are practically the same album, just different style vocals and production.

Consummatum Est; just discovered this band, great stuff. So far I've heard only Hypnagogia, is the earlier stuff in the same vein?
Any recommendations when it comes to similar music?

Where can I download Oceans Of Sin by Chorus Of Ruin?

Another band that doesn't really fit in with death/doom-tag, but who will still be molested into this thread is Parade Of Souls. Their Empyreum EP is fantastic, and it's still available for normal prices if you just google around a little bit. Nowadays it's advertised as black metal because of loose Beherit connection, but not really black metal IMO. I've worn two copies of the EP throughout the years. I couldn't find it from any blog/download sites, but feel free to post your link here if you have it online somewhere for those who want to hear samples. Here's a really messy upload from youtube;

Left Hand Solution; Kicki Höijertz looked sexy posing in a leather jacket in 1993. As it turned out, she had more looks than skills, but I still quite like the demo & Shadowdance.

Left Hand Solution's "Fevered" is a monument. It leans a lot towards the goth side but the girl's voice is dark and I like the melodies.

Thorns, Fevered, Angels With The Last Plagues, Scarred.. lots of great tunes.

I have to check the later releases, Shadowdance is the last I've heard.
