So which ones had drum machine? I think Mr. Kyrck once told me it was pretty much all of them from the mid 90's because the popular studio didn't have a drum set. I know these are for sure drum machines:

Rotting Christ "thy mighty contract"
Thou Art Lord both albums

Frustrating aspect of those old Greek recordings, they are good, but they'd
be so much better with a real drummer.

I don't even notice it most of the time. I don't mind drum machines if you can't really tell.

There are so few bands that knows how to use a drummachine, so I'll have
to disagree abit with you there. But of course, if the actual riffs and arrangements
are killer, it's forgiven.

not to go off subject, but a good couple of examples of drum machine handled properly would be diabolical masquerade debut and the second ancient wisdom cd, also the first terror of the trees cd.

Can't imagine a more useless point to argue on. Who gives a flying fuck if it's a drum machine or some drunk long haired idiot doing the nasty job as long as the riffs and atmosphere are there. Just check Mysticum, Octinomos, Diabolicum, King Diamond's 'The Eye' and a shitload of others (certainly not rubbish like Diabolical Masquerade/Ancient Crapdom btw).

I would have to say a live drummer makes it sound organic and warmer..sometimes, little mistakes like off-beats and timing differences make it so much more appealing..

Haha wow, I had no idea TERROR OF THE TREES had a drum machine. Good on them, they pulled it off really well.

Well, I also thought that both Rotting Christ albums were done by a drum machine or something, but Sauron himself told me it was him, although they used some kind of triggers for ALL the drums, so they end up sounding like a drum machine. I also think that they also used some computers and did some cut and paste in some parts to make it sound even.
Anyway, I also agree that if it sounds good with the music, that's what counts, BUT there's something with a human drummer that a machine can give...
