What songs/riffs defined entire subgenres to come? I was thinking about this while listening to Rotting Christ non serviam this morning.

BRAZILIAN DEATHCORE SOUND:
Sarcofago "christs death" on Warfare Noise I.

GREEK BLACK METAL:
Varathron "The Tressrising of Nyarlathotep" on Demo 2

NORSE BLACK METAL:
Thorns reh maybe. I need to think about this a bit more.

NY AREA DEATH METAL:
Probably Incantation or Immolation but can't decide on a song.

BESTIAL BLACK METAL:
Blasphemy "Demoniac" on Blood Upon the Altar

SHRED METAL/INSTRUMENTAL ALBUMS

Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force

Ok, 2 songs with vocals, but this defined a later totally fucked up genre.

EDIT - Sorry, not a song or a riff.

Pretty much.

I was thinking about posting an ultra-lame joke instead à la "Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath: Heavy Metal", but now Nocturnal Deathstrike made an even worse one.

Agreed for the Varathron.Best Hellenic black band for sure. For me:

German demonic thrash ( before black metal) -->Destruction - the ritual and ''bestial invasion''

Norway black metal -->Mayhem - life eternal

80s black metal darkness and satanic ritual - Bathory - enter the eternal fire

Black metal chaos- Beherit - demonomancy

Brazilian necrothrash - Sepultura - to the wall on Scizophrenia

American thrash - slayer - jesus saves, exodus - and then they were none, whiplash - red bomb

Death metal Rotteness: Autopsy '' gasping for air''

Death metal abyss : Morbid Angel - lions den on Covenant

Swedish death : sinners bleed - Entombed on Clandestine

Necro deathrash at its best - Slaughter (can) - tortured souls on Strappado

And so many others..

In connection with Norse Black Metal the #1 influence should be BATHORY me thinks.

Especially Under the Sign of the Black Mark, I'd say.

And for NY Death Metal: I connect it immediately with early Cannibal Corpse and Suffocation.
Immolation early days were basically Morbid Angel clone and Incantation may have had recording already in 1990 but I think CC and Suffocation were lot bigger and more influential in beginning of 90s.

Suffocation and Cannibal Corpse are more responsible for the "Suffo slam" movement than anything else. I don't really think of them when I think of NY death metal.
