This record was already in my "have to sell this shit" box but after reading this I gave it another spin and yes, it is actually pretty good. |

Nasheim is fucking incredible. The Angantyr split slays. And their cover of Blood Fire Death on the lp is good, too. |

Donkelheet is another band I highly recommend, but I've only heard the single track released on the split w/ Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult. Has anyone ever heard anything else from this band? |

Wigrid sucks so tremendously. Even for standard B-Grade Depressive BM. _________________ www.internecion.co.nz

agreed. To Lay Like Old Ashes fucking kills. This Dreadful Emptiness is one of the best DSBM songs out there IMO _________________ TradelisT

I bought that Austere album and it's fucking awful. Not what I was looking for at all. Weakest shit I've heard in awhile, totally limp-wristed. I can sometimes overlook bad vocals, but these are the worst. The screams are those pathetic, hooting/whining type vocals that I hate (Silencer, Sterbend), the clean vocals suck and are more suited for easy-listening, and the songs are completely forgettable. |

The problem with Austere is that to my ears it is too predictable, almost easy-listeningly so. Everything is done 100% according to the recipe without deviation. However, I can perfectly understand why people love it. |

I'd also recommend Trist and Life is Pain. although both have vocals that are more in the vein of Sterbend, Silencer, etc. type DSBM. Life is Pain is a DSBM "supergroup" to say, featuring Kim Karlsson from Lifelover and Trist from Trist. _________________ TradelisT

Hypothermia's "Köld" (and other material recorded during those times such as the track "Hora") and Abyssic Hate's "Suicidal Emotions" are the most relevant albums from this subgenre in my opinion, and I wouldn't underestimate the value of Nyktalgia either.
Austere's debut is fantastic, love everything about it and it fits perfectly on tape. The second and last album was a disappointment, I couldn't get past the MTV emo vocals and arrangements on certain tracks, sorry. I'm happy the band ended already before venturing even further into that crap, though I guess this Grey Waters will continue the "legacy"... I'll stick to my Katatonia. |
